SYSTEM AND METHOD TO STABILIZE A PREFABRICATED STRUCTURE
A prefabricated structure having improved stability comprises a shell including a shell frame. The shell frame comprises a floor support, a ballast device including one or more ballast tanks provided in the floor support, and an extension deployable from the shell.
1 . A prefabricated structure having improved stability, comprising:
a shell including a shell frame comprising:
a floor support;
a ballast device including one or more ballast tanks provided in the floor support; and
an extension deployable from the shell.
2 . The prefabricated structure of claim 1 , wherein the ballast device includes:
a supply water tank provided in the floor support; and
a grey water tank provided in the floor support.
3 . The prefabricated structure of claim 2 , wherein one or both of the supply water tank and the grey water tank has a baffled structure to guide movement of supply water within the supply water tank.
4 . The prefabricated structure of claim 2 , wherein the shell frame includes a channel to communicate a supply water duct connected with the supply water tank and to communicate a grey water duct connected with the grey water tank.
5 . The prefabricated structure of claim 2 , wherein the ballast device spans the length of the shell.
6 . The prefabricated structure of claim 2 , wherein grey water collected in the grey water tank is chemically treated; and
further comprising a mechanism to release grey water form the grey water tank to the environment so that a target volume of grey water is maintained in the grey water tank to provide ballast.
7 . A prefabricated structure having improved stability comprising:
a shell having a shell frame with a floor support;
an extension deployable from the shell; and
a ballast device associated with the shell frame to lower a center of gravity of the shell.
8 . The prefabricated structure of claim 7 , wherein the ballast device includes:
a supply water tank located in the floor support, and
a grey water tank located in the floor support.
9 . The prefabricated structure of claim 8 , wherein one or both of the supply water tank and the grey water tank has a baffled structure to guide movement of supply water within the supply water tank.
10 . The structure of claim 7 , wherein:
said ballast device is located in the floor support.
11 . The prefabricated structure of claim 8 , wherein the shell frame includes a channel to communicate a supply water duct connected with the supply water tank and to communicate a grey water duct connected with the grey water tank.
12 . The prefabricated structure of claim 7 , wherein the ballast device spans the length of the shell.
13 . The prefabricated structure of claim 8 , wherein grey water collected in the grey water tank is chemically treated; and
further comprising a mechanism to release grey water form the grey water tank to the environment so that a target volume of grey water is maintained in the grey water tank to provide ballast.
14 . A method of stabilizing a prefabricated structure comprising:
receiving a prefabricated structure including
a shell with a floor support;
an extension deployable from the shell;
a ballast device located in the floor support to lower a center of gravity of the shell, the ballast device including:
a supply water tank;
positioning the prefabricated structure at a deployment site;
deploying the extension from the shell; and
filling the supply water tank with supply water.
15 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising:
Receiving a prefabricated structure with a grey water tank;
allowing grey water to fill the grey water tank until a first target volume is reached; and
releasing grey water to the environment when a second target volume is reached.
16 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising:
chemically treating the grey water before releasing the grey water to the environment.
17 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the shell frame is a channel to communicate a supply water duct connected with the supply water tank; and further comprising:
communicating rain water to the supply water tank; and
treating the supply water for use in the prefabricated structure.
18 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising:
leveling the shell so that liquid in the ballast device is generally evenly distributed.
19 . The method of claim 14 , wherein positioning the prefabricated structure at the deployment site further comprises:
repeatedly performing the following steps until the prefabricated structure is supported by the deployment site:
suspending at least a portion of the prefabricated structure so that a column of the shell frame is unobstructed from the deployment site, and
lowering a support leg from the column; and
wherein leveling the shell comprises adjusting a distance the support leg extends from the column.
