Abstract

A communication system includes a development sector for registering a plurality of wireless devices, a business sector for controlling utilization of an application program and for receiving application data, a service sector for deploying the application program and for providing the application data to the business sector in accordance with communication with at least one wireless device of the plurality; and a mobile sector comprising the plurality of wireless devices, each device for receiving the application program deployed by the service sector, executing the application program in response to the business sector, and communicating with the service sector to support provision of the application data to the business sector. The wireless device, such as a cell phone, personal digital assistant, or palm top computer may include an auxiliary device such as a bar code scanner, a magnetic stripe card reader, or a printer. The business sector or service sector may monitor or limit utilization of the auxiliary device. Deployment of application programs may be controlled by the business sector or the development sector by rendering an application program or auxiliary device available for use only after a particular time or after receipt of a message. Distributed processing application programs having components in the business, service, and mobile sectors may thereby be updated in an orderly manner. An application program on a wireless device may assist confirmation of an order made by a buyer via a web site. The wireless device is expected to be operated by the buyer. Fraud reporting is accomplished by comparing data obtained by registration of the wireless device with data provided in the confirmation.

Claims (26)

1. A system comprising:

a database storing a plurality of indicia of registration of each of one or more wireless devices and storing a plurality of distributed processing application programs in association with the plurality of indicia of registration; and

a server coupled to the database and effectuating a transfer of a first component of one of the plurality of distributed processing application programs to one of the wireless devices, wherein the distributed processing application program to be transferred is associated with the indicia of registration of the wireless device receiving the distributed processing application program.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein the database stores indicia of registration of multiple wireless devices and the server transfers the first component of the distributed processing application program to be transferred to each of the multiple devices.

3. The system of claim 1 wherein the server effectuating a transfer of a second component of the transferred distributed processing application program.

4. The system of claim 1 wherein the server provides application data to a business sector upon execution of the transferred application program by at least one of the one or more wireless devices.

5. The system of claim 1 wherein the transferred application program implements a payment transaction.

6. The system of claim 5 wherein the transferred application program implements a personal payment service.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein the transferred application program implements a credit authorization from a remote location.

8. A method, performed by a computer system, comprising the steps of:

storing in a database a plurality of indicia of registration of each of one or more wireless devices in association with a plurality of distributed processing application programs; and

transferring, to one of the wireless devices indicated by the indicia of registration, a first component of one of the plurality of distributed processing application programs for execution by each of the one or more wireless devices, wherein the distributed processing application program to be transferred is associated with the indicia of registration of the wireless device receiving the distributed processing application program.

9. The method of claim 8 wherein the step of storing the indicia of registration comprises storing a plurality of indicia of registration of multiple wireless devices and the step of transferring the application program comprises transferring the first component of the distributed processing application program to each of the multiple devices.

10. The method of claim 8 further comprising the step of transferring a second component of the distributed processing application program.

11. The method of claim 8 further comprising the step of providing application data to a business sector upon execution of the transferred application program by at least one of the one or more wireless devices.

12. The method of claim 8 wherein the transferred application program implements a payment transaction.

13. The system of claim 12 wherein the transferred application program implements a personal payment service.

14. The system of claim 8 wherein the transferred application program implements a credit authorization from a remote location.

15. A method, performed by a wireless device, comprising the steps of:

obtaining in a database a first component of a distributed processing application program from a computer system that stores, in association with the distributed processing application program, a plurality of indicia of registration of each of one or more wireless devices; and

executing the distributed processing application program if the wireless device is associated with the indicia of registration.

16. The method of claim 15 further comprising the step of obtaining in the database a second component of the distributed processing application program.

17. The method of claim 15 further comprising the step of providing application data to a business sector upon execution of the application program by at least one of the one or more wireless devices.

18. The method of claim 15 wherein the application program implements a payment transaction.

19. The system of claim 18 wherein the application program implements a personal payment service.

20. The system of claim 15 wherein the application program implements a credit authorization from a remote location.
