Abstract

A system, method, and computer readable medium for processing messaging services in a network system are provided. A femtocell system receives a message delivery request and message content to be delivered to a destination device from a user equipment serviced thereby. The femtocell system packetizes the message content and transmits the packetized message content to a core network. A confirmation is then received by the femtocell system from the core network.

Claims (31)

1. A method of processing messaging services in a network system, comprising:

receiving, by a femtocell from a user equipment serviced thereby, a message delivery request and message content to be delivered to a destination device, wherein receiving the message delivery request comprises receiving, by a base transceiver station of the femtocell, a short message service (SMS) delivery request including the message content;

conveying, via the base transceiver station, the SMS delivery request and the message content via an application data delivery service (ADDS) message to the femtocell;

packetizing, by the femtocell, the message content;

transmitting, by the femtocell, the packetized message content to a core network; and

receiving a confirmation from the core network;

wherein conveying, by the base transceiver station, the message content comprises conveying the message content to a Session Initiation Protocol to Internet Operating System adapter of the femtocell;

transmitting, by a Session Initiation Protocol to Internet Operating System adapter of the femtocell, an Application Data Delivery Service acknowledgement to the base transceiver station of the femtocell.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the Application Data Delivery Service message comprises an Application Data Delivery Service transfer message.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting, by the base transceiver station of the femtocell, a short message delivery acknowledgment to the user equipment.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving a confirmation comprises receiving a Session Initiation Protocol response from the core network.

5. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having computer-executable instructions for execution by a processing system, the computer-executable instructions for processing messaging services in a network system, the computer-readable medium comprising instructions that cause a processor to:

receive a message delivery request and message content to be delivered to a destination device, wherein the message delivery request is received by a base transceiver station of a femtocell, and the message delivery request is configured as a short message service (SMS) delivery request including the message content;

convey, via the base transceiver station, the SMS delivery request and the message content as an application data delivery service (ADDS) message to a Session Initiation Protocol to Internet Operating System adapter of a femtocell;

packetize the message content;

transmit the packetized message content to a core network; and

receive a confirmation from the core network;

wherein the convey, by the base transceiver station, the message content comprises conveying the message content to a Session Initiation Protocol to Internet Operating System adapter of the femtocell;

transmit, by a Session Initiation Protocol to Internet Operating System adapter of the femtocell, an Application Data Delivery Service acknowledgment to the base transceiver station of the femtocell.

6. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 5 , wherein the Application Data Delivery Service message comprises an Application Data Delivery Service transfer message.

7. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 5 , further comprising instructions that transmit a short message delivery acknowledgment to a user equipment serviced by the femtocell.

8. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 5 , further comprising instructions that transmit, by a Session Initiation Protocol to Internet Operating System adapter of the femtocell, an Application Data Delivery Service acknowledgment to the base transceiver station of the femtocell.

9. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 5 , wherein the instructions that receive a confirmation comprise instructions that receive a Session Initiation Protocol response from the core network.

10. A system configured for processing data services in a network system, comprising:

a packet-switched network;

an Internet Protocol Multimedia subsystem communicatively coupled with the packet-switched network; and

a femtocell communicatively coupled with the packet-switched network, wherein the femtocell includes a base transceiver station and a Session Initiation Protocol to Internet Operating System adapter, wherein the base transceiver station receives a message delivery request and message content to be delivered to a destination device from a user equipment, wherein the message delivery request is configured as a short message service (SMS) delivery request including the message content, and wherein the base transceiver station conveys the SMS delivery request and the message content as an application data delivery service (ADDS) message to the Session Initiation Protocol to Internet Operating System adapter and transmits an acknowledgment to the user equipment, and wherein the Session Initiation Protocol to Internet Operating System adapter packetize the message content, transmits the packetized message content to the Internet Protocol Multimedia subsystem and receives a confirmation therefrom;

wherein the conveys, by the base transceiver station, the message content comprises conveying the message content to a Session Initiation Protocol to Internet Operating System adapter of the femtocell;

transmit, by a Session Initiation Protocol to Internet Operating System adapter of the femtocell, an Application Data Delivery Service acknowledgment to the base transceiver station of the femtocell.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the Application Data Delivery Service message comprises an Application Data Delivery Service transfer message.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the Session Initiation Protocol to Internet Operating System adapter transmits an Application Data Delivery Service acknowledgment to the base transceiver station.
