PRINTING APPARATUS AND METHOD
An inkjet printing device includes a printhead and a rotatable platen. The platen has an opening in which is positioned an ink absorbing member for receiving ink from the printhead.
1 . An inkjet printing device comprising a printhead and a rotatable platen, the platen having an opening in which is positioned an ink absorbing member for receiving ink from the printhead.
2 . A device according to claim 1 , wherein a surface of the platen has a print media supporting area.
3 . A device according to claim 1 , wherein the ink absorbing member comprises a foam insert.
4 . A device according to claim 1 , wherein the printhead comprises nozzles controllable to print ink drops whilst the print media supporting area of the platen lies adjacent said printhead.
5 . A device according to claim 1 , wherein the nozzles are arranged to remain at a predetermined distance from an axis of rotation of the platen.
6 . A device according to claim 5 , wherein the nozzles form a page wide array of nozzles substantially spanning the print media supporting area.
7 . A device according to claim 1 , wherein the platen further comprises a capping portion for sealing the printhead when the printhead is not in use.
8 . A device according to claim 1 , wherein said platen is substantially coextensive with said printhead.
9 . A device according to claim 8 , wherein said opening is a longitudinal slot extending a length of said platen.
10 . A device according to claim 1 , wherein said platen is operatively connected to a drive motor for rotating the platen.
