Abstract

A station-side communication device connected to subscriber-side communication devices via an optical combining device; sending, to the subscriber-side communication devices, a distance measurement request signal; computing transmission delay times of optical signals from the individual subscriber-side communication devices by receiving distance measurement signals, and including: a threshold control part identifying the level of distance measurement signals; a signal detection part detecting breaks in the distance measurement signals from the threshold control part; a transmission granting part determining the timing at which transmission of optical signals is granted, and a reset timing generation part that, there is notification of detection of a break in the distance measurement signal from the signal detection part while it is being notified that distance measurement is carried out to and from the subscriber-side communication devices from the transmission granting part, sends a reset signal indicating that the voltage level is reset to the threshold control part.

Claims (26)

1. An optical communication system comprising:

a station-side communication device;

a plurality of subscriber-side communication devices; and

an optical combining device connecting the plurality of subscriber-side communication devices to the station-side communication device, wherein:

the station-side communication device transmits to said plurality of subscriber-side devices a distance measurement request signal for measuring distances from said station-side communication device to respective said plural subscriber-side communication devices, receives distance measurement signals which are replies to said distance measurement request signal from said plurality of subscriber-side communication devices, and computes transmission delay times of optical signals from said individual subscriber-side communication devices,

said station-side communication device comprising:

a threshold control part identifying voltage levels of said distance measurement signals converted from optical signals into electrical signals;

a signal detection part identifying breaks in said distance measurement signals from said threshold control part;

a transmission granting part determining timing at which transmission of optical signals from said subscriber-side communication devices is granted; and

a reset timing generation part sending said threshold control part a plurality of reset signals while having a notification from said transmission granting part that the distance measurements are carried out between said station-side communication device and said subscriber-side communication devices, in order to reset the voltage levels; and

said subscriber-side communication devices return a plurality of said distance measurement signals to said station-side communication device, when receiving said distance measurement request signals from said station-side communication device.

2. The optical communication system according to claim 1 , wherein

said plurality of reset signals are sent to said threshold control part at an interval by said reset timing generation part.

3. The optical communication system according to claim 2 , wherein:

each of said subscriber-side communication devices returns each of a plurality of distance measurement signals at an interval to said station-side communication device; and

the interval of said reset signals sent by said reset timing generation part and the interval of said distance measurement signals returned by each subscriber-side communication device are mutually different from each other.

4. The optical communication system according to claim 1 , wherein said station-side communication device comprises a means of storing identification numbers attached to said plurality of subscriber-side communication devices, said station-side communication device determining an interval between said plurality of distance measurement signals returned from each subscriber-side communication device on the basis of a corresponding identification number, and notifying said subscriber-side communication devices of determined intervals, respectively.

5. The optical communication system according to claim 1 , wherein

said station-side communication device

has a calculation means outputting random values, and

notifies said subscriber-side communication devices of the random values output by said calculation means, respectively, the random values being used as the intervals for the subscriber-side communication devices to return the distance measurement signals to the station-side communication device.

6. The optical communication system according to claim 4 , wherein

said optical communication system is a PON (Passive Optical Network), and

said station-side communication device notifies said subscriber-side communication devices of said intervals, respectively, using a downlink PON frame grant instruction domain.

7. The optical communication system according to claim 5 , wherein

said optical communication system is a PON (Passive Optical Network), and said station-side communication device uses a downlink PON frame grant instruction domain to notify said subscriber-side communication devices of said intervals, respectively.
