Abstract

Method of making an end termination on a reclosable fastener includes providing a reclosable fastener including a first track with a first profile and a second track with a second profile. The first track has an end portion and the second track has an end portion. The first and second profiles are releasably engageable to each other. A plastic slider is slidably mounted to the fastener for movement between an open position and a closed position, and the slider has a separating finger. An end termination is formed at the end portions of the first and second tracks, and the end termination has a shape corresponding to the separating finger.

wherein said joined end portions of the first and second tracks form an end termination, the end termination being formed by heating said joined end portions of the first and second tracks, and disposing the separating finger of the slider between said joined end portions of the first and second tracks to allow said joined end portions of the first and second tracks to cool around the separating finger, the end termination having a shape to receive the separating finger and the shape of the end termination is retained when the slider is in the open position, the end termination being configured to provide at least one of an audible or a tactile indication when the slider is moved to the closed position and to contract behind at least a portion of the back surface of the separating finger when received by the end termination.

2. The reclosable plastic bag of claim 1 , wherein end termination has a shape corresponding to the separating finger.

3. The reclosable plastic bag of claim 1 , wherein said end termination is formed in a top portion of said first and second profiles.

4. A reclosable plastic bag comprising:

opposing body panels attached to each other along a pair of opposing sides and a bottom bridging the sides;

a mouth formed opposite said bottom;

a reclosable fastener extending along said mouth, said fastener including a first track with a first profile and a second track with a second profile, said first track having an end portion and said second track having an end portion joined to the end portion of the first track, said first and second profiles being releasably engageable to each other; and

a slider mounted to said fastener for movement between an open position and a closed position, the slider having a separating finger having a front surface facing the joined end portions of the first and seconds tracks, opposing sides, and a back surface opposite the front surface;

wherein said joined end portions of the first and second tracks form an end termination, the end termination being formed by heating said joined end portions of the first and second tracks, and disposing the separating finger of the slider between said joined end portions of the first and second tracks to allow said joined end portions of the first and second tracks to cool around the separating finger, the end termination having a shape to receive the separating finger and the shape of the end termination is retained when the slider is in the open position, the end termination configured to contract behind at least a portion of the back surface of the separating finger when received by the end termination.

5. The reclosable plastic bag of claim 4 , wherein the separating finger includes an arcuate surface.

6. The reclosable plastic bag of claim 5 , wherein the end termination has an arcuate shape.

7. The reclosable plastic bag of claim 4 , wherein the end termination is configured to receive at least a portion of the separating finger when the slider is in the closed position.

8. The reclosable plastic bag of claim 4 , wherein the end termination contracts to the shape of the separating finger to inhibit leakage therebetween when the slider is in the closed position.

9. The reclosable plastic bag of claim 4 , wherein the end termination provides a tactile indication when the slider is moved to the closed position.

10. The reclosable plastic bag of claim 4 , wherein the end termination provides an audible indication when the slider is moved to the closed position.

11. The reclosable plastic bag of claim 4 , wherein the end termination provides both a tactile indication and an audible indication when the slider is moved to the closed position.

12. The reclosable plastic bag of claim 4 , wherein said end termination is formed in a top portion of said first and second profiles.

13. A reclosable plastic bag comprising:

opposing body panels attached to each other along a pair of opposing sides and a bottom bridging the sides;

a mouth formed opposite said bottom;

a reclosable fastener extending along said mouth, said fastener including a first track with a first profile and a second track with a second profile, said first track having an end portion and said second track having an end portion joined to the end portion of the first track, said first and second profiles being releasably engageable to each other; and

a slider mounted to said fastener for movement between an open position and a closed position, the slider having a separating finger having a front surface facing the joined end portions of the first and seconds tracks, opposing sides, and a back surface opposite the front surface;

wherein a top portion of said first profile of said end portion of said first track and a top portion of said second profile of said end portion of said second track form an end termination, the end termination being formed by heating the top portion of said first profile of said end portion of said first track and the top portion of said second profile of said end portion of said second track, and disposing the separating finger of the slider between the top portion of said first profile of said end portion of said first track and the top portion of said second profile of said end portion of said second track to allow the top portion of said first profile of said end portion of said first track and the top portion of said second profile of said end portion of said second track to cool around the separating finger, the end termination having a shape to receive the separating finger and the shape of the end termination is retained when the slider is in the open position, the end termination configured to contract behind at least a portion of the back surface of the separating finger when received by the end termination.

14. A method of making a reclosable plastic bag having an end termination on a reclosable fastener comprising:

providing opposing body panels attached to each other along a pair of opposing sides, a bottom bridging the sides and a mouth formed opposite said bottom;
