Pagewidth printhead assembly having a capping member actuating mechanism
View Patent ↗Provided is a pagewidth printhead assembly. The assembly includes two printheads arranged on opposite sides of a print media path for duplex printing, and a printhead actuating mechanism configured to move the printheads relative to each other. The assembly also includes a capping member and a capping member actuating mechanism for moving the capping member between an uncapped position outside the media path and a capped position inside the media path for capping both printheads.
1. A pagewidth printhead assembly comprising:
two printheads arranged on opposite sides of a print media path for duplex printing;
a printhead actuating mechanism configured to move the printheads with respect to each other along an arcuate path;
a capping member; and
a capping member actuating mechanism for moving the capping member along a linear path between an uncapped position outside the media path and a capped position inside the media path for capping both printheads.
2. The pagewidth printhead assembly of claim 1 , having rollers proximate the media path for moving print media past the printheads via the media path.
3. The pagewidth printhead assembly of claim 1 , wherein the printhead actuating mechanism is configured operatively to raise one printhead prior to the capping member actuating mechanism moving the capping member into the capped position.
4. The pagewidth printhead assembly of claim 3 , wherein the printhead actuating mechanism is configured to displace at least one printhead to engage the capping member positively in the capped position.
5. The pagewidth printhead assembly of claim 1 , wherein the capping member includes two opposed capping faces for capping the respective printheads in the capped position.
6. The pagewidth printhead assembly of claim 1 , wherein the capping member comprises a body portion formed from a rigid material and a capping portion having an integrally formed elastomeric material lip portion and a cavity surrounded by the lip portion.
7. The pagewidth printhead assembly of claim 1 , wherein the capping member is arranged to be connected to a suction device whereby material may be sucked from the respective printheads in the capped position.
