Abstract

A printer is provided having a printhead and controller. The printhead has a plurality of printhead modules each having a plurality of ejection nozzles. The nozzles of at least one of the printhead modules is rotationally displaced relative to the other printhead modules. The controller communicates ejection data to the ejection nozzles in accordance with a cumulative correction factor for each printhead module, including printhead modules having non-rotationally displaced nozzles, to at least partially compensate for the rotational displacement.

Claims (10)

1. A printer comprising:

a printhead comprising a plurality of printhead modules each having a plurality of ejection nozzles, the nozzles of at least one of the printhead modules being rotationally displaced relative to the other printhead modules;

a controller for communicating ejection data to the ejection nozzles in accordance with a cumulative correction factor for each printhead module, including printhead modules having non-rotationally displaced nozzles, to at least partially compensate for the rotational displacement.

2. A printer according to claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to communicate the ejection data to the printhead modules as dot data and control data for controlling printing of the dot data, and each printhead module including a communication input for receiving the dot and data.

3. A printer according to claim 2 , wherein the communication input is configured to receive the dot and control data serially.

4. A printer according to claim 2 , wherein each printhead module includes a plurality of the communication inputs.

5. A printer according to claim 2 , wherein the communication input of each printhead module is connected to a common data bus.

6. A printer according to claim 5 , wherein each printhead module is configured to respond to dot and control data on the bus only when it is intended for that printhead module.

7. A printer according to claim 1 comprising a plurality of the controllers, wherein a first controller outputs ejection data only to a first printhead module and a second controller outputs ejection data only to a second printhead module, and wherein the printhead modules are configured such that no ejection data passes between them.

8. A printer according to claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to determine an order in which at least some of the ejection data is supplied to a printhead module, the order being determined at least partly on the basis of the correction factor.
