Abstract

A variety of structures, methods, systems, and configurations can support plasmons for multiplexing.

Claims (29)

1. A system, comprising:

a first plasmon switch receptive to a first control light signal and a first input plasmon signal and configured to output a first switched plasmon signal, wherein the first plasmon switch is configured to pass the first input plasmon signal in a first passing time interval and to attenuate the first input plasmon signal in a first attenuating time interval to produce the first switched plasmon signal;

a second plasmon switch receptive to a second control light signal and a second input plasmon signal and configured to output a second switched plasmon signal; and

signal mixing circuitry responsive to the first switched plasmon signal and the second switched plasmon signal to produce a multiplexed signal.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein the first plasmon switch receptive to a first control light signal includes a first plasmon switch receptive to a first control signal including plasmon energy.

3. The system of claim 2 further comprising a first energy generator arranged to produce the first control light signal.

4. The system of claim 3 wherein the first energy generator includes an electromagnetic energy generator.

5. The system of claim 3 wherein the first energy generator includes a plasmon energy generator.

6. The system of claim 3 wherein the first energy generator includes a square wave generator.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein the second plasmon switch receptive to a second control light signal includes a second plasmon switch receptive to a second control signal including plasmon energy.

8. The system of claim 7 further comprising a second energy generator arranged to produce the second control light signal.

9. The system of claim 8 wherein the second energy generator includes an electromagnetic energy generator.

10. The system of claim 8 wherein the second energy generator includes a plasmon energy generator.

11. The system of claim 8 wherein the second energy generator includes a square wave generator.

12. The system of claim 1 wherein the signal mixing circuitry is further responsive to a third signal to produce the multiplexed signal.

13. The system of claim 1 wherein the second plasmon switch is configured to pass the second input plasmon signal in a second passing time interval and to attenuate the second input plasmon signal in a second attenuating time interval to produce the second switched plasmon signal.

14. The system of claim 1 wherein the first passing time interval and the first attenuating time interval are substantially non-overlapping.

15. The system of claim 1 wherein the first passing time interval and the first attenuating time interval form a first modulation period, and wherein the inverse of the first modulation period defines a first modulation frequency.

16. The system of claim 15 wherein the signal mixing circuitry is responsive to the first modulation frequency to produce the multiplexed signal.

17. The system of claim 15 wherein the second plasmon switch is configured to pass the second input plasmon signal in a second passing time interval and to attenuate the second input plasmon signal in a second attenuating time interval to produce the second switched plasmon signal, and wherein the second passing time interval and the second attenuating time interval form a second modulation period, and wherein the inverse of the second modulation period defines a second modulation frequency.

18. The system of claim 17 wherein the first modulation frequency is substantially equal to the second modulation frequency.

19. The system of claim 17 wherein the signal mixing circuitry is further responsive to the second modulation frequency to produce the multiplexed signal.

20. The system of claim 1 wherein the signal mixing circuitry is further responsive to the first control light signal to produce the multiplexed signal.

21. The system of claim 20 wherein the signal mixing circuitry is further responsive to the second control light signal to produce the multiplexed signal.

22. The system of claim 1 further comprising:

a third plasmon switch receptive to a third control signal and a third input plasmon signal and configured to output a third switched plasmon signal, wherein the signal mixing circuitry is further responsive to the third switched plasmon signal to produce the multiplexed signal.

23. The system of claim 1 further comprising:

signal de-mixing circuitry responsive to the multiplexed signal to produce the first switched plasmon signal and the second switched plasmon signal.

24. The system of claim 23 wherein the signal de-mixing circuitry is further responsive to the signal mixing circuitry to produce the first switched plasmon signal and the second switched plasmon signal.
