Abstract

Illustrative embodiments provide systems, applications, apparatuses, computer software program products, and methods related to identification of electrical appliances by electrical characteristics.

Claims (84)

100 . A system comprising:

a measurement device configured to measure, at first and second times, first and second electrical power signals of at least one electrical circuit; and

a data processing system including:

a frequency analyzer configured to frequency analyze first and second electrical signals that are indicative of the measured first and second electrical power signals; and

a data processing component configured to identify at least one change in operational state of at least one electrical appliance of the at least one electrical circuit based upon a difference in the first and second frequency analyzed electrical signals.

101 . The system of claim 100 , further comprising a communications system configured to communicate data indicative of the at least one change in operational state of at least one electrical appliance of the at least one electrical circuit.

102 . The system of claim 101 , wherein the communications system includes a power line carrier communication system.

103 . The system of claim 101 , wherein the communications system includes a wireless communication system.

104 . The system of claim 101 , wherein the communications system includes a network communication system.

105 . The system of claim 100 , further comprising data storage configured to store data indicative of the at least one change in operational state of at least one electrical appliance of the at least one electrical circuit.

106 . The system of claim 105 , wherein the data storage is removable.

107 . The system of claim 100 , wherein the measurement device includes at least one current measurement device.

108 . The system of claim 107 , wherein the current measurement device includes at least one current transformer.

109 . The system of claim 107 , wherein the current measurement device includes at least one ammeter.

110 . The system of claim 100 , wherein the measurement device includes at least one voltage measurement device.

111 . The system of claim 100 , wherein the frequency analyzer implements a fast Fourier transform.

112 . The system of claim 100 , wherein the first and second electrical signals that are indicative of the measured first and second electrical power signals include the measured first and second electrical power signals.

113 . The system of claim 112 , wherein the measured first and second electrical power signals include an electrical power signal chosen from electrical current of the at least one electrical circuit and voltage of the at least one electrical circuit.

114 . The system of claim 100 , wherein the first and second electrical signals that are indicative of the measured first and second electrical power signals include first and second calculated parameter signals.

115 . The system of claim 114 , wherein the calculated parameter includes at least one parameter chosen from real power and reactive power.

116 . The system of claim 114 , wherein the calculated parameter includes at least one parameter chosen from conductance and susceptance.

117 . The system of claim 100 , wherein the frequency analyzer is further configured to analyze the fundamental frequency component of the first and second electrical signals that are indicative of the measured first and second electrical power signals.

118 . The system of claim 100 , the frequency analyzer is further configured to analyze at least one non-fundamental harmonic frequency component of the first and second electrical signals that are indicative of the measured first and second electrical power signals.

119 . The system of claim 118 , wherein the at least one non-fundamental harmonic frequency component includes at least one odd non-fundamental harmonic frequency component.

120 . The system of claim 119 , wherein the at least one odd non-fundamental harmonic frequency component includes a third harmonic frequency component.

121 . The system of claim 100 , wherein operational state of at least one electrical appliance of the at least one electrical circuit includes a first operating state having a first set of electrical load characteristics and a second operating state having a second set of electrical load characteristics that are different from the first set of electrical load characteristics.

122 . The system of claim 100 , wherein operational state of at least one electrical appliance of the at least one electrical circuit includes an on state and an off state.

123 . The system of claim 100 , wherein the data processing component is further configured to identify electrical appliances of the at least one electrical circuit based upon the difference in the first and second frequency analyzed electrical signals.

124 . The system of claim 123 , further comprising a communications system configured to communicate data indicative of identification of the identified electrical appliances of the at least one electrical circuit.

125 . The system of claim 123 , further comprising data storage that stores a plurality of predetermined frequency analyzed electrical signals for a plurality of predetermined electrical appliances.

126 . The system of claim 100 , wherein the measurement device is disposed at a location within the electrical circuit.

127 . The system of claim 100 , wherein the measurement device is disposed at a location that is electrically proximate to an isolation point of the electrical circuit.

128 . The system of claim 100 , wherein the measurement device is disposed at an electrical service entrance that supplies the at least one electrical circuit.

129 . The system of claim 100 , wherein the measurement device is disposed at a power line between an electric utility and an electrical service entrance that supplies the at least one electrical circuit.

130 . A system for monitoring electrical appliances, the system comprising:

a measurement device configured to measure, at first and second times, first and second electrical power signals of at least one electrical circuit;

a data processing system including:

a frequency analyzer configured to frequency analyze first and second electrical signals that are indicative of the measured first and second electrical power signals; and

a data processing component configured to identify at least one change in operational state of at least one electrical appliance of the at least one electrical circuit based upon a difference in the first and second frequency analyzed electrical signals; and

a monitoring system operatively coupled to the data processing system and configured to monitor data indicative of the at least one change in operational state of at least one electrical appliance of the at least one electrical circuit.

131 . The system of claim 130 , further comprising a communications system configured to communicate the data indicative of the at least one change in operational state of at least one electrical appliance of the at least one electrical circuit.

132 . The system of claim 131 , wherein the communications system includes a power line carrier communication system.

133 . The system of claim 131 , wherein the communications system includes a wireless communication system.

134 . The system of claim 131 , wherein the communications system includes a network communication system.

135 . The system of claim 131 , further comprising data storage configured to store the data indicative of the at least one change in operational state of at least one electrical appliance of the at least one electrical circuit.

136 . The system of claim 135 , wherein the data storage is removable.

137 . The system of claim 130 , wherein the measurement device includes at least one current measurement device.

138 . The system of claim 137 , wherein the current measurement device includes at least one current transformer.

139 . The system of claim 137 , wherein the current measurement device includes at least one ammeter.

140 . The system of claim 130 , wherein the measurement device includes at least one voltage measurement device.

141 . The system of claim 130 , wherein the frequency analyzer implements a fast Fourier transform.

142 . The system of claim 130 , wherein the data processing component is further configured to identify electrical appliances of the at least one electrical circuit based upon the difference in the first and second frequency analyzed electrical signals.

143 . The system of claim 142 , further comprising a communications system configured to communicate data indicative of identification of the identified electrical appliances of the at least one electrical circuit.

144 . The system of claim 142 , further comprising data storage that stores a plurality of predetermined frequency analyzed electrical signals for a plurality of predetermined electrical appliances.

145 . The system of claim 130 , wherein the measurement device is disposed at a location within the electrical circuit.

146 . The system of claim 130 , wherein the measurement device is disposed at a location that is electrically proximate to an isolation point of the electrical circuit.

147 . The system of claim 130 , wherein the measurement device is disposed at an electrical service entrance that supplies the at least one electrical circuit.

148 . The system of claim 130 , wherein the measurement device is disposed at a power line between an electric utility and an electrical service entrance that supplies the at least one electrical circuit.

149 . A system comprising:

a measurement device configured to measure, at first and second times, first and second electrical power signals of at least one electrical circuit; and

a data processing system including:

a frequency analyzer configured to frequency analyze first and second electrical signals that are indicative of the measured first and second electrical power signals;

a first data processing component configured to identify at least one change in operational state of at least one electrical appliance of the at least one electrical circuit based upon a difference in the first and second frequency analyzed electrical signals; and

a second data processing component configured to identify electrical appliances of the at least one electrical circuit based upon the difference in the first and second frequency analyzed electrical signals.

150 . The system of claim 149 , further comprising a communications system configured to communicate data indicative of the at least one change in operational state of at least one electrical appliance of the at least one electrical circuit.

151 . The system of claim 150 , wherein the communications system is further configured to communicate data indicative of identification of the identified electrical appliances.

152 . The system of claim 150 , wherein the communications system includes a power line carrier communication system.

153 . The system of claim 150 , wherein the communications system includes a wireless communication system.

154 . The system of claim 150 , wherein the communications system includes a network communication system.

155 . The system of claim 151 , further comprising data storage configured to store the data indicative of the at least one change in operational state of at least one electrical appliance of the at least one electrical circuit.

156 . The system of claim 155 , wherein the data storage is further configured to store the data indicative of identification of the identified electrical appliances.

157 . The system of claim 156 , wherein the data storage is removable.

158 . The system of claim 149 , wherein the measurement device includes at least one current measurement device.

159 . The system of claim 158 , wherein the current measurement device includes at least one current transformer.

160 . The system of claim 158 , wherein the current measurement device includes at least one ammeter.

161 . The system of claim 149 , wherein the measurement device includes at least one voltage measurement device.

162 . The system of claim 149 , wherein the frequency analyzer implements a fast Fourier transform.

163 . The system of claim 149 , further comprising data storage that stores a plurality of predetermined frequency analyzed electrical signals for a plurality of predetermined electrical appliances.

164 . The system of claim 149 , wherein the measurement device is disposed at a location within the electrical circuit.

165 . The system of claim 149 , wherein the measurement device is disposed at a location that is electrically proximate to an isolation point of the electrical circuit.

166 . The system of claim 149 , wherein the measurement device is disposed at an electrical service entrance that supplies the at least one electrical circuit.

167 . The system of claim 149 , wherein the measurement device is disposed at a power line between an electric utility and an electrical service entrance that supplies the at least one electrical circuit.
