Abstract

A method and apparatus provides for configuring the backlight brightness level. The backlight brightness level can be configured at the drug library and/or at the medical device, thereby improving the flexibility a user has in changing backlight parameters. A method and apparatus for managing a power saving mode allows the user to configure the power saving program at the drug library and/or at the medical device.

Claims (50)

1. A method for configuring a backlight by an authorized person at a medication management unit having an MMU graphical user interface, the method comprising:

displaying clinical care areas on the MMU graphical user interface;

receiving a selection of one of the displayed clinical care areas by the authorized person;

displaying default brightness levels on the MMU graphical user interface for the selected clinical care area;

receiving selection of one of the displayed default brightness levels by the authorized person;

updating a drug library in the medication management unit with the selected default brightness level for the selected clinical care area; and

transmitting the updated drug library from the medication management unit.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving and storing the updated drug library at a medical device having a device graphical user interface;

displaying clinical care areas on the device graphical user interface;

receiving selection of one of the displayed clinical care areas by a user; and

operating the backlight for the medical device at the default brightness level for the user selected clinical care area from the stored updated drug library.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising:

changing the default brightness level for the user selected clinical care area from the stored updated drug library at the medical device based on user input.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein the changing the default brightness level for the user selected clinical care area from the stored updated drug library at the medical device comprises:

providing a brightness setting interface on the device graphical user interface;

receiving an updated brightness setting; and

operating the backlight based on the updated brightness setting.

5. The method of claim 3 wherein the changing the default brightness level for the user selected clinical care area from the stored updated drug library at the medical device comprises:

receiving a change of clinical care area by the user at the medical device; and

setting the default brightness level for the changed clinical care area from the stored updated drug library based on the received change of clinical care area.

6. The method of claim 4 wherein the providing a brightness setting interface on the device graphical user interface limits choice of brightness level to brightness levels greater than the default brightness level for the user selected clinical care area from the stored updated drug library.

7. The method of claim 4 wherein the providing a brightness setting interface on the device graphical user interface limits choice of brightness level to brightness levels less than the default brightness level for the user selected clinical care area from the stored updated drug library.

8. The method of claim 4 , wherein the providing a brightness setting interface on the device graphical user interface includes displaying selection user selectable brightness levels that when selected by the user will temporarily override the default brightness level for the selected clinical care area.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the displaying clinical care areas on the MMU graphical user interface comprises displaying three to five default brightness levels on the MMU graphical user interface for selection by the authorized user with respect to the selected clinical care area.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein five different default brightness levels are provided.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the five different default brightness levels range in brightness from a level 1 setting that is dimmest to a level 5 setting that is brightest.

12. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

displaying default far view settings on the MMU graphical user interface, at least one of the default far view settings being associated with a Volume to Be Infused (VTBI) mode and another of the default far view settings being associated with a Volume Infused mode;

receiving a selection of one of the displayed default far view settings by the authorized person; and

updating the drug library in the medication management unit with the selected default far view setting for the selected clinical care area.

13. A method for configuring a backlight by a user at a medical device having a device graphical user interface, the method comprising:

receiving and storing an updated drug library at the medical device, the updated drug library including default brightness levels, each of the default brightness levels being associated with a clinical care area;

displaying clinical care areas on the device graphical user interface;

receiving selection of one of the displayed clinical care areas by the user; and

operating the backlight for the medical device at the default brightness level for the user selected clinical care area from the stored updated drug library.

14. The method of claim 13 further comprising:

changing the default brightness level for the user selected clinical care area from the stored updated drug library at the medical device based on user input.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the changing the default brightness level for the user selected clinical care area from the stored updated drug library at the medical device comprises:

receiving a change of clinical care area by the user at the medical device; and

setting the default brightness level for the changed clinical care area from the stored updated drug library based on the received change of clinical care area.

16. The method of claim 14 wherein the changing the default brightness level for the user selected clinical care area from the stored updated drug library at the medical device comprises:

providing a brightness setting interface on the device graphical user interface;

receiving an updated brightness setting; and

operating the backlight based on the updated brightness setting.

17. The system of claim 16 wherein the providing a brightness setting interface on the device graphical user interface limits choice of brightness level to brightness levels greater than the default brightness level for the user selected clinical care area from the stored updated drug library.

18. The system of claim 16 wherein the providing a brightness setting interface on the device graphical user interface limits choice of brightness level to brightness levels less than the default brightness level for the user selected clinical care area from the stored updated drug library.

19. The method of claim 16 , wherein the providing a brightness setting interface on the device graphical user interface includes displaying selection user selectable brightness levels that when selected by the user will temporarily override the default brightness level for the selected clinical care area.

20. The method of claim 13 wherein the updated drug library includes a default far view setting, the default far view setting being associated with one of a Volume to Be Infused (VTBI) mode and a Volume Infused mode, the method further comprising:

operating the device graphical user interface for the medical device at the default far view setting for the user selected clinical care area from the stored updated drug library.
