Abstract

An aqueous-based UV-curable fluid composition for use in a micro-fluid ejection device. The fluid composition includes a mixture of poly-functional compounds, a colorant compound, a photo-initiator and less than about 50 weight percent water based on a total weight of the fluid composition, wherein the fluid composition is substantially devoid of volatile organic carrier fluids.

Claims (9)

1. A thermal micro-fluid ejection head for depositing a UV-curable fluid on a substrate, comprising: an ejection head with a heater having a source of UV-curable aqueous based fluid for ejecting from the heater during an on-time of the heater that ranges from about 833 to about 2000 nanoseconds; a UV opaque shield on the ejection head as an outer layer of the ejection head, the UV opaque shield being a ceramic and including one of titanium oxide, cerium oxide, zinc oxide and combinations of titanium oxide and cerium oxide in a thickness of about 1.5 to about 2.5 microns; and having ejection actuators having a power per unit volume of about 2 to about 3 Peta-Watts per cubic meter.

2. The thermal micro-fluid ejection head of claim 1 for ejecting a droplet volume of about 16.5 picoliters.

3. The thermal micro-fluid ejection head of claim 1 , having an ejector refill rate that is consistent with 6 KHz operation.

4. The thermal micro-fluid ejection head of claim 1 , having a nearly zero meniscus bulge and substantially no nozzle plate flooding.

5. The thermal micro-fluid ejection head of claim 1 having an ejector pumping effectiveness of about 5 pL per micro-joule.

6. The micro-fluid ejection head of claim 1 having a jet velocity ranging from about 8 to about 10 meters per second.

7. The micro-fluid ejection head of claim 1 , comprising a nozzle plate under the UV opaque shield.

8. The micro-fluid ejection head of claim 7 , wherein the nozzle plate comprises a photo-imageable nozzle plate material.

9. A fluid cartridge for a printer comprising the micro-fluid ejection head of claim 1 .
