Induction resistivity cover
View Patent ↗A downhole induction resistivity assembly that comprises a downhole tool string component. The tool string component comprises an induction transmitter. The transmitter is adapted to induce an induction field in the surrounding formation. A first induction receiver is spaced apart from the transmitter and is adapted to measure the induction field. A magnetic field generating mechanism is disposed adjacent on either or both sides of the transmitter and adapted to guide the transmitter's signal into the formation. A second induction receiver is disposed in close proximity to the magnetic field generating mechanism and is adapted to measure the magnetic field generated by the mechanism.
1. A downhole induction resistivity assembly incorporated into a downhole tool string, comprising:
a downhole tool string component comprising a mid-body intermediate first and second tool joints adapted for connection to adjacent tool string components;
the mid-body comprises a central bore formed within a tubular wall of the component, the tubular wall comprising an inner and outer diameter;
a cover with at least a portion comprising an irradiated plastic is disposed over the mid-body and protecting an electrically conducting coil;
the electrically conducting coil disposed on an outer surface of the mid-body; and,
wherein at least one Halbach array is disposed intermediate the plastic and mid-body.
2. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the cover is a sleeve.
3. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the coil is disposed in a recess formed in the outer surface of the mid-body.
4. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the coil is separated from the outer diameter by an electrically insulating material.
5. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein a plurality of coils in the same radial recess is adapted to be independently energized.
6. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein a plurality coils located in a plurality of radial recesses formed in the mid-body is adapted to be independently energized.
7. The assembly of claim 6 , wherein the units are excited in a predetermined sequence alternating between the sides of the transmitter.
8. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the irradiated plastic comprises a polyetheretherkeytone.
9. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein a plurality of coils is disposed underneath the plastic.
10. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the plastic is adapted to span less than half of a circumference of the mid-body.
11. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the plastic comprises a material selected from a group of thermoplastic polymers.
12. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the cover comprises a plurality of windows comprising the plastic.
