RECEIVING AND SEPARATING AN ENCODED VIDEO STREAM INTO PLURAL ENCODED PICTURES WITH DIFFERENT IDENTIFIERS
Methods and systems for the efficient and non-redundant transmission of a single video program in multiple frame rates, optionally employing a combination of video coding standards, in a way that is backwards-compatible with legacy receivers only supportive of some subsection of frame rates or of some subsection of video coding standards.
1 . A method, comprising:
receiving an encoded video stream corresponding to a program, wherein the encoded video stream includes a plurality of encoded pictures, wherein the encoding of the plurality of encoded pictures is according to a video coding specification;
separating the plurality of encoded pictures into a first plurality of encoded pictures and a second plurality of encoded pictures;
providing each encoded picture in the first plurality assigned to a first packet identifier value; and
providing each encoded picture in the second plurality of encoded pictures assigned to a second packet identifier value, wherein the second packet identifier value is different than the first packet identifier value.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing a program comprising of a multiplexed plurality of streams (MPOS) including the first and second plurality.
3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising providing association information for the program, wherein the association information includes the first packet identifier value and the second packet identifier value.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each encoded picture in the first plurality corresponds to a respective encoded picture in the second plurality.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein each encoded picture in the second plurality is provided after completely providing its corresponding encoded picture of the first plurality.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a first encoded picture of the first plurality is provided after completely providing an encoded picture of the second plurality.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a temporal reference number corresponding to each encoded picture in the first plurality is modified.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein each encoded picture in the first plurality has a respectively corresponding encoded picture in the second plurality, and the temporal reference number of each encoded picture in the second plurality equals the modified temporal reference number of its corresponding encoded picture in the first plurality.
9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the temporal reference number indicates a picture presentation order.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the received plurality of encoded pictures contains reference pictures and non-reference pictures, wherein the first plurality of provided encoded pictures includes a first portion of the received non-reference pictures, and wherein the second plurality of provided encoded pictures includes a second portion of the received non-reference pictures.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the first portion and the second portion of non-reference pictures comprises of all the received non-reference pictures.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein all the encoded pictures in the second plurality are non-reference pictures.
13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein multiple encoded pictures in the second plurality are non-reference pictures.
14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the encoded pictures in the first plurality includes reference pictures and non-reference pictures.
15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the encoded pictures in first plurality includes only reference pictures.
16 . An apparatus, comprising:
a memory; and
one or more processors configured to:
receive an encoded video stream corresponding to a program, wherein the encoded video stream includes a plurality of encoded pictures, wherein the encoding of the plurality of encoded pictures is according to a video coding specification;
separate the plurality of encoded pictures into a first plurality of encoded pictures and a second plurality of encoded pictures;
provide each encoded picture in the first plurality assigned to a first packet identifier value; and
provide each encoded picture in the second plurality of encoded pictures assigned to a second packet identifier value, wherein the second packet identifier value is different than the first packet identifier value.
17 . The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to provide a program comprising of a multiplexed plurality of streams (MPOS) including the first and second plurality.
18 . The apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to provide association information for the program, wherein the association information includes the first packet identifier value and the second packet identifier value.
19 . The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein each encoded picture in the first plurality corresponds to a respective encoded picture in the second plurality.
20 . The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to provide each encoded picture in the second plurality after completely providing its corresponding encoded picture of the first plurality.
