Abstract

Corrosive effects arising during oilfield treatment applications are inhibited and/or prevented by introducing into an oil or gas well at least one compound of formula I: wherein: R 1 is independently H, —[—C n H 2n O—] a —H, or an alkyl group having from 1 to about 24 carbon atoms; R 2 is independently H or —[—C n H 2n O—] b —H, R 3 is independently —[—CH 2 ] c —, or —C d H 2d —[—OC n H 2n —] e —, R 4 is independently H or —[—C n H 2n O—] f —H, R 5 is independently H or —[—C n H 2n O—] g —H, a is from about 1 to about 8; b+f+g is between 0 to about 30; c is from about 1 to 6; d is from about 1 to 6; e is from about 1 to about 8; and n is 2 or 3. Such corrosive effects are especially inhibited in the treatment of sour wells where H 2 S corrosion is a potential problem as well as conduits used during the treatment of subterranean formations.

Claims (47)

1. A method of inhibiting corrosion in a conduit having a metallic surface exposed to produced subterranean formation fluids, the method comprising introducing into the conduit a corrosive inhibiting effective amount of at least one compound of the formula:

wherein:

R 1 is independently H, —[—C n H 2n O—] a —H, or an alkyl group having from 1 to about 24 carbon atoms;

R 2 is independently H or —[—C n H 2n O—] b —H, or an alkyl group having from 1 to about 24 carbon atoms;

R 3 is —C d H 2d —[—OC n H 2n —] e —,

R 4 is independently H or —[—C n H 2n O—] f —H,

R 5 is independently H or —[—C n H 2n O—] g —H,

a is from about 1 to about 8;

b+f+g is between 0 to about 30;

d is from about 1 to 6;

e is from about 1 to about 8; and

n is 2 or 3

and inhibiting corrosion of the metallic surface of the conduit, wherein the subterranean formation fluids are produced during matrix acidizing, acid fracturing, pickling or acid washing.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compound of formula (I) is selected from the group consisting of:

wherein the average value of h is between from about 2.6 to about 5.6; and

H 2 N—(CH 2 ) 2 —(—OCH 2 CH 2 —) 2 —NH 2   (b).

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the compound of formula (I) is:

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the compound of formula (I) is:

H 2 N—(CH 2 ) 2 —(—OCH 2 CH 2 ) 2 —NH 2 .

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one member selected from the group consisting of acidic CO 2 and acidic H 2 S is present in the conduit.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the produced subterranean formation fluid is selected from the group consisting of formation produced brines, liquid hydrocarbons, gaseous hydrocarbons, acidic gases and mixtures thereof.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the produced subterranean formation fluid is an acid gas produced form carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein R 1 and R 2 are independently selected from an alkyl group having from 1 to about 24 carbon atoms.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein R 1 and R 2 are independently selected from an alkyl group having between from about 1 to about 6 carbon atoms.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 4 and R 5 are each —H.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein d is 3.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the metallic surface is an alloy steel or carbon steel.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the conduit is a production or workover conduit.

14. A method of inhibiting corrosion by acid in a conduit having a metallic surface exposed to produced subterranean formation fluids wherein the acid is created from hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide, the method comprising introducing into the conduit at least one compound of the formula:

wherein:

R 1 is independently H, —[—C n H 2n O—] a —H, or an alkyl group having from 1 to about 24 carbon atoms;

R 2 is independently H or —[—C n H 2n O—] b —H, or an alkyl group having from 1 to about 24 carbon atoms;

R 3 is —C d H 2d —[—OC n H 2n —] e —,

R 4 is independently H or —[—C n H 2n O—] f —H,

R 5 is independently H or —[—C n H 2n O—] g —H,
