Nucleic acid and corresponding protein entitled 184P1E2 useful in treatment and detection of cancer
View Patent ↗A novel gene (designated 184P1E2) and its encoded protein, and variants thereof, are described wherein 184P1E2 exhibits tissue specific expression in normal adult tissue, and is aberrantly expressed in the cancers listed in Table I. Consequently, 184P1E2 provides a diagnostic, prognostic, prophylactic and/or therapeutic target for cancer. The 184P1E2 gene or fragment thereof, or its encoded protein, or variants thereof, or a fragment thereof, can be used to elicit a humoral or cellular immune response; antibodies or T cells reactive with 184P1E2 can be used in active or passive immunization.
1. A method for detecting the presence of a protein in a biological sample comprising the steps of:
contacting the biological sample with an antibody or fragment thereof which specifically binds to the protein, wherein the protein comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:5 or 7 and,
determining the presence or absence of a complex of the antibody or fragment thereof and the protein in the biological sample compared to a corresponding normal control sample.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the antibody comprises a polyclonal antibody.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the antibody comprises a monoclonal antibody.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the sample is taken from a patient who has or who is suspected of having cancer.
5. The method of claim 4 wherein the cancer is a bladder, kidney, or lung cancer.
