Abstract

Various embodiments are disclosed for a services policy communication system and method. In some embodiments, a network device executes a service controller for a plurality of device groups, in which the service controller includes a capability to securely partition one or more device group database partitions, each device group partition includes service controller system settings, and each device group includes a plurality of communication devices controlled by a virtual service provider.

Claims (40)

1 . A system, comprising:

a processor of a network device configured to:

execute a service controller for a plurality of device groups, wherein the service controller includes a capability to securely partition one or more device group database partitions, wherein each device group partition includes service controller system settings, and wherein each device group includes a plurality of communication devices controlled by a virtual service provider; and

a memory of the server coupled to the processor and configured to provide the processor with instructions.

2 . The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

provide a device group control interface, wherein the device group control interface is displayed on a remote terminal, a portal, or a website.

3 . The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

manage at least one aspect of one or more of the following for one or more of the device groups: a device provisioning apparatus, a device provisioning database, provisioning of device service activation or service profile parameters, activation server programming, service plans, service plan billing rules in a billing system, bill by account mediation rules in a mediation server, device service usage monitoring, network management functions, device management functions, service alarm settings, actions taken on a service alarm, a device suspend function, a device resume function, a device quarantine status, device service usage analysis tools, device service profile test tools, customer care portal content, and customer care procedure content.

4 . The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

associate a first service processor with a first service controller and a first device group when a first communications device is activated on a first network.

5 . The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

associate a first service processor with a first activation server when a first device initiates an activation request.

6 . The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

program a first communications device with a first set of credentials to activate the first communications device.

7 . The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

program a first communications device with a first set of credentials required to gain access to the network using an automated activation process when the first communications device is turned on.

8 . The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

program a first communications device with account information used to associate with a first service controller and a first device group upon activation of the first communications device.

9 . The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

program a first communications device with account information used to create an account or temporary account for activation of the first communications device.

10 . The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

program a first communications device with activation tracking service settings to associate the first communications device with an activation master agent.

11 . The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

program activation server settings to admit a first communications device using a first activation sequence for the first device group.

12 . The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

program a plurality of billing rules for a first device group in a billing system.

13 . The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

program a plurality of user service usage notification rules for a first device group in the service controller.

14 . A method, comprising:

executing a service controller for a plurality of device groups on a processor of a network device, wherein the service controller includes a capability to securely partition one or more device group database partitions, wherein each device group partition includes service controller system settings, and wherein each device group includes a plurality of communication devices controlled by a virtual service provider.

15 . A computer program product, the computer program product being embodied in a computer readable storage medium and comprising computer instructions for:

executing a service controller for a plurality of device groups, wherein the service controller includes a capability to securely partition one or more device group database partitions, wherein each device group partition includes service controller system settings, and wherein each device group includes a plurality of communication devices controlled by a virtual service provider.

16 . A system, comprising:

a processor of a network device configured to:

execute a service controller for a plurality of device groups, wherein the service controller includes a capability to securely partition one or more device group database partitions for virtual control by a virtual service provider, wherein each device group partition includes service controller system settings, and wherein each device group includes a plurality of communication devices controlled by a virtual service provider; and

provide a device group control interface; and

a memory of the server coupled to the processor and configured to provide the processor with instructions.

17 . The system recited in claim 16 , wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

manage at least one aspect of one or more of the following for one or more of the device groups: a device provisioning apparatus, a device provisioning database, provisioning of device service activation or service profile parameters, activation server programming, service plans, service plan billing rules in a billing system, bill by account mediation rules in a mediation server, device service usage monitoring, network management functions, device management functions, service alarm settings, actions taken on a service alarm, a device suspend function, a device resume function, a device quarantine status, device service usage analysis tools, device service profile test tools, customer care portal content, and customer care procedure content.

18 . The system recited in claim 16 , wherein the device group control interface is a remote terminal, a portal, or a website.
