Abstract

A portable light intended for mounting on a garment as support includes two LED light sources spaced apart towards the rear of the portable light. A clipped base below on anchor facilitates locating a garment between the anchor and the base, and a spring action urges the base toward the anchor. A hingedly movable head for the LEDs is mounted on the housing to move to and form the housing. An opening of the housing causes a switch in the housing to move between an opened and closed position such that a circuit actives or deactivates the LED lights when the head opens or closes relative to the housing.

Claims (47)

1. A portable light for mounting on a support comprising:

an anchor having a top face, a bottom face, a front end, and a back end, the anchor enclosing a power source;

a hinge located at the back end of the anchor;

a head connected to the hinge such that in a closed position the head is positioned on the top face of the anchor and only extends past the hinge in a direction towards the front end of the anchor, the head including a light source located approximately at the middle of the anchor when the head is in the closed position;

a base hingedly connected on the bottom face of the anchor to collectively form a clip, the clip being accessible in both an open position and closed position; and

wherein the head has a length substantially shorter than the length of the anchor and substantially shorter than the length of the base.

2. The portable light of claim 1 wherein the base has a width, the width of the base towards the front end of the anchor being greater than the width of the base towards the back end of the anchor.

3. The portable light of claim 1 wherein the anchor has a generally decreasing thickness defined by the top and bottom face such that the thickness towards the front end is less than the thickness towards the back end.

4. The portable light of claim 1 wherein the light source illuminates a light beam essentially solely in a direction away from the anchor.

5. The portable light of claim 1 further including a friction element in the hinge between the head and the anchor, thereby stabilizing the head in a position relative to the anchor.

6. The portable light of claim 1 wherein the head includes at least two light sources.

7. The portable light of claim 1 wherein the light source is an LED.

8. The portable light of claim 1 wherein the top face of the anchor includes a recess sized to fit at least part of the head.

9. The portable light of claim 8 wherein the recess is sized such that in the closed position the head at least partly matingly fits in the recess.

10. A portable light for mounting on a support comprising:

an anchor having a top face, a bottom face, a front end, and a back end, the anchor enclosing a power source;

a hinge located at the back end of the anchor;

a head connected to the hinge of the anchor such that in a closed position the head is positioned on the top face of the anchor and only extends past the hinge in a direction towards the front end of the anchor, the head including a light source located approximately at the middle of the anchor when the head is in the closed position, wherein the head has a length approximately 50% of a longitudinal length defined by the back end and front end of the anchor; and

a base hingedly connected on the bottom face of the anchor to collectively form a clip, the clip being accessible in both an open position and closed position.

11. The portable light of claim 10 wherein the base has a width, the width of the base towards the front end of the anchor being greater than the width of the base towards the back end of the anchor.

12. The portable light of claim 10 wherein the anchor has a generally decreasing thickness defined by the top and bottom face such that the thickness towards the front end is less than the thickness towards the back end.

13. The portable light of claim 10 wherein the light source illuminates a light beam essentially solely in a direction away from the anchor.

14. The portable light of claim 10 further including a friction element in the hinge between the head and the anchor, thereby stabilizing the head in a position relative to the anchor.

15. The portable light of claim 10 wherein the head includes at least two light sources.

16. The portable light of claim 10 wherein the light source is an LED.

17. The portable light of claim 10 wherein the base has an generally flat planar face and wherein essentially all of the generally flat planar face contacts a resting surface when the portable light is positioned on the resting surface with the top face of the anchor furthest away from the resting surface.

18. The portable light of claim 10 wherein the top face of the anchor includes a recess sized to fit at least part of the head.

19. The portable light of claim 18 wherein the recess is sized such that in the closed position the head at least partly matingly fits in the recess.

20. A portable light for mounting on a support comprising:

an anchor having a top face, a bottom face, a front end, and a back end, the anchor enclosing a power source;

a hinge located at the back end of the anchor;

a head connected to the hinge such that in a closed position the head is positioned on the top face of the anchor and only extends past the hinge in a direction towards the front end of the anchor, the head including a light source located approximately at the middle of the anchor when the head is in the closed position;

a base hingedly connected on the bottom face of the anchor; and

wherein the head hingedly moves in a first arcuate sense relative to the anchor and the base hingedly moves in a second arcuate sense relative to the anchor, the second arcuate sense being opposite to the first arcuate sense, and wherein the head has a length substantially shorter than the length of the anchor and substantially shorter than the length of the base.

21. The portable light of claim 20 wherein the base has an generally flat planar face and wherein essentially all of the generally flat planar face contacts a resting surface when the portable light is positioned on the resting surface with the top face of the anchor furthest away from the resting surface.

22. A portable light for mounting on a support comprising:

an anchor having a top face, a bottom face, a front end, and a back end, the anchor enclosing a power source;

a hinge located at the back end of the anchor;

a head connected to the hinge such that in a closed position the head is positioned on the top face of the anchor and only extends past the hinge in a direction towards the front end of the anchor, the head including a light source, the light source being located approximately at the middle of the anchor when the head in the closed position; and

a base hingedly connected on the bottom face of the anchor to collectively form a clip, the base having an generally flat planar face wherein essentially all of the generally flat planar face contacts a resting surface when the portable light is positioned on the resting surface with the top face of the anchor furthest away from the resting surface, the clip being accessible in both an open position and closed position.

23. The portable light of claim 22 wherein the top face of the anchor includes a recess sized to fit at least part of the head.

24. The portable light of claim 23 wherein the recess is sized such that in the closed position the head at least partly matingly fits in the recess.

25. A portable light for mounting on a support comprising:

an anchor having a top face, a bottom face, a front end, and a back end, the anchor enclosing a power source, the top face of the anchor including a recess;

a hinge located at the back end of the anchor;

a head connected to the hinge such that in a closed position at least part of the head is positioned within the recess on the top face of the anchor, the head only extending past the hinge in a direction towards the front end of the anchor, the head including a light source, the light source being located approximately at the middle of the anchor when the head in the closed position; and

a base hingedly connected on the bottom face of the anchor to collectively form a clip, the clip being accessible in both an open position and closed position.
