Abstract

A liquid crystal panel according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes a substrate, and a pixel electrode arranged on the substrate. The pixel electrode includes a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode separated from each other, and the second subpixel electrode includes a first electrode part disposed above the first subpixel electrode and a second electrode part disposed below the first subpixel electrode and connected to the first electrode part. At least one first notch is arranged on at least one edge of the first subpixel electrode or the second subpixel electrode.

Claims (73)

1. A liquid crystal panel, comprising:

a first substrate and a second substrate facing each other;

a pixel electrode disposed on the first substrate;

a common electrode arranged on the second substrate; and

an alignment layer arranged on at least one of the pixel electrode and the common electrode,

wherein at least one first notch is arranged at a corner of the pixel electrode where two edges of the pixel electrode meet at a point,

the first notch comprises only two sides meeting at a point,

the first notch comprises a size in a range of 3 μm by 3 μm to 15 μm by 15 μm, and

the alignment layer comprises a light reactive material.

2. The liquid crystal panel of claim 1 , wherein

the pixel electrode comprises a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode, and

the second subpixel electrode comprises:

a first electrode part disposed above the first subpixel electrode; and

a second electrode part disposed below the first subpixel electrode, the second electrode part connected to the first electrode part.

The liquid crystal panel of claim 2 , wherein the second subpixel electrode further comprises a first connection piece connecting the first electrode part and the second electrode part on a right side of the first subpixel electrode and a second connection piece connecting the first electrode part and the second electrode part on a left side of the first subpixel electrode.

4. The liquid crystal panel of claim 3 , wherein the first subpixel electrode is enclosed by the second subpixel electrode with a gap between the first subpixel electrode and the second subpixel electrode.

5. The liquid crystal panel of claim 4 , wherein

a boundary between the first subpixel electrode and the first electrode part and a boundary between the first subpixel electrode and the second electrode part each have a step shape.

6. The liquid crystal panel of claim 5 , wherein

the step shape of the boundary between the first subpixel electrode and the first electrode part and the step shape of the boundary between the first subpixel electrode and the second electrode part is disposed on a longitudinal central line substantially bisecting the pixel electrode.

7. The liquid crystal panel of claim 5 , wherein the at least one first notch comprises:

a second notch disposed within 10 μm of a transverse central line substantially bisecting the pixel electrode, and arranged in a longitudinal edge of the first subpixel electrode, and

a third notch disposed within 10 μm of a longitudinal central line substantially bisecting the pixel electrode, and arranged in a transverse edge of the second subpixel electrode.

8. The liquid crystal panel of claim 7 ,

wherein the at least one alignment region comprises a plurality of alignment regions divided by the transverse central line and the longitudinal central line, the plurality of alignment regions having different alignment directions from each other.

9. The liquid crystal panel of claim 4 , further comprising a storage electrode overlapping the gap.

10. The liquid crystal panel of claim 1 , wherein the at least one first notch has one shape of a triangle, a quadrangle, a trapezoid, and a semicircle.

11. The liquid crystal panel of claim 1 , wherein the two sides of the first notch form a substantially right angle.

12. A liquid crystal display, comprising:

a first substrate;

a pixel electrode arranged on the first substrate;

a second substrate facing the first substrate;

a common electrode arranged on the second substrate;

an alignment layer arranged on at least one of the pixel electrode and the common electrode, the alignment layer comprising a light reactive material; and

a liquid crystal layer interposed between the pixel electrode and the common electrode and comprising liquid crystal molecules,

wherein the pixel electrode comprises a plurality of sub-regions,

a tilt direction of a liquid crystal molecule corresponding to a sub-region of the plurality of sub-regions is different from a tilt direction of a liquid crystal molecule corresponding to another sub-region of the plurality of sub-regions, and

a first notch is disposed at a first point of an edge of the pixel electrode, the edge of the pixel electrode and a boundary line between the sub-regions meeting at the first point.

13. The liquid crystal display of claim 12 , wherein the pixel electrode comprises four sub-regions.

14. The liquid crystal display of claim 12 , wherein

the pixel electrode comprises a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode separated from each other, and

the first notch is arranged on at least one of an upper edge and a lower edge of the second subpixel electrode and a left edge and a right edge of the first subpixel electrode.

15. The liquid crystal display of claim 12 , wherein a second notch is arranged at a corner of the pixel electrode.

16. The liquid crystal display of claim 12 , wherein the first notches have a size in a range of 3 μm by 3 μm to 15 μm by 15 μm.

17. The liquid crystal display of claim 12 , wherein

the pixel electrode comprises a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode separated from each other,

wherein the second subpixel electrode comprises:

a first electrode part disposed above the first subpixel electrode,

a second electrode part disposed below the first subpixel electrode and connected to the first electrode part, and

a boundary between the first subpixel electrode and the first electrode part and a boundary between the first subpixel electrode and the second electrode part each have a step shape.

18. The liquid crystal display of claim 12 , further comprising a storage electrode,

wherein the pixel electrode comprises a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode separated from each other, and the storage electrode is disposed between the first subpixel electrode and the second subpixel electrode.

19. The liquid crystal display of claim 12 , wherein a second notch is arranged at a corner of the pixel electrode where two edges of the pixel electrode meet at a point, and

the second notch comprises only two sides meeting at a point and forming a right angle.

20. The liquid crystal display of claim 12 , wherein

the pixel electrode comprises a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode separated from each other,

wherein the second subpixel electrode comprises:

a first electrode part disposed above the first subpixel electrode,

a second electrode part disposed below the first subpixel electrode and connected to the first electrode part, and

a first connection piece connecting the first electrode part and the second electrode part on the right side of the first subpixel electrode, and a second connection piece connecting the first electrode part and the second electrode part on the left side of the first subpixel electrode.

21. A liquid crystal panel, comprising:

a substrate; and

a pixel electrode disposed on the substrate, the pixel electrode comprising a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode separated from each other,

wherein at least one first notch is arranged on at least one outer edge of the first subpixel electrode or the second subpixel electrode,

the first notch comprises only two sides meeting at a point and forming a right angle, and

the first notch has a size in a range of 3 μm by 3 μm to 15 μm by 15 μm.

22. The liquid crystal panel of claim 21 , wherein the at least one first notch is disposed within 10 μm of a transverse central line or a longitudinal central line substantially bisecting the pixel electrode.

23. The liquid crystal panel of claim 22 , wherein the at least one first notch is disposed on the transverse central line or the longitudinal central line.

24. The liquid crystal panel of claim 21 , wherein the first subpixel electrode is enclosed by the second subpixel electrode with a gap between the first subpixel electrode and the second subpixel electrode.

25. The liquid crystal panel of claim 24 , wherein the at least one first notch comprises:

a second notch disposed within 10 μm of a transverse central line substantially bisecting the pixel electrode, and arranged in a longitudinal edge of the first subpixel electrode, and

a third notch disposed within 10 μm of a longitudinal central line substantially bisecting the pixel electrode, and arranged in a transverse edge of the second subpixel electrode.

26. The liquid crystal panel of claim 25 , wherein the at least one first notch comprises a fourth notch arranged at a corner of the pixel electrode where two edges of the pixel electrode meet at a point.
