Abstract

Compositions, systems and methods that allow for the detection of the actual physical delivery of a pharmaceutical agent to a body are provided. Embodiments of the compositions include an identifier and an active agent. The invention finds use in a variety of different applications, including but not limited to, monitoring of therapeutic regimen compliance, tracking the history of pharmaceutical agents, etc.

Claims (39)

1. A receiver comprising a receiver element configured to receive a conductively transmitted signal emitted by an identifier that conductively transmits a signal upon contact with an internal target physiological site, wherein the receiver comprises a data storage element, and wherein the data storage element is configured to store data comprising at least one of time, date and identity of an ingested composition.

2. The receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the conductively transmitted signal has a frequency that ranges from 1 KHz to 100 MHz.

3. The receiver according to claim 2 , wherein the conductively transmitted signal has a frequency that ranges from 1 KHz to 70 KHz.

4. The receiver according to claim 2 , wherein the conductively transmitted signal has a frequency that ranges from: 30 KHz to 300 KHz; 160 KHz to 190 KHz or 3 KHz to 30 KHz.

5. The receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the receiver element comprises a receiving antenna configured to detect potential differences in a body.

6. The receiver according to claim 5 , wherein the receiving antenna comprises two electrodes spaced apart from each other at a distance sufficient to detect a differential voltage.

7. The receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the receiver comprises an amplifier.

8. The receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the receiver comprises a filter.

9. The receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the receiver comprises a demodulator.

10. The receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the receiver is configured to retransmit data to a separate external device.

11. The receiver according to claim 10 , wherein the receiver comprises RF circuitry and is configured to retransmit data to a separate external device by using an RF communication protocol.

12. The receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the receiver is configured as an in vivo receiver.

13. The receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the receiver is configured as an ex vivo receiver.

14. The receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the receiver comprises a physiological sensor.

15. A receiver comprising:

a receiver element comprising two electrodes spaced apart from each other at a distance sufficient to detect a differential voltage in a body;

a data storage element; an amplifier; and

a demodulator;

wherein the receiver is configured to retransmit data to a separate external device, and wherein the data storage element is configured to store data comprising at least one of time, date and identity of an ingested composition.

16. The receiver according to claim 15 , wherein the receiver is configured as an in vivo receiver.

17. The receiver according to claim 15 , wherein the receiver is configured as an ex vivo receiver.

18. A system comprising:

an identifier that conductively transmits a signal upon contact with an internal target physiological site; and

a receiver comprising a receiver element configured to receive a conductively transmitted signal emitted by the identifier and a data storage element configured to store data comprising at least one of time, date and identity of an ingested composition.

19. The system according to claim 18 , wherein the conductively transmitted signal has a frequency that ranges from 1 KHz to 100 MHz.

20. The system according to claim 18 , wherein the receiver element comprises a receiving antenna configured to detect potential differences in a body.

21. The system according to claim 20 , wherein the receiving antenna comprises two electrodes spaced apart from each other at a distance sufficient to detect a differential voltage.

22. The system according to claim 18 , wherein the receiver comprises an amplifier.

23. The system according to claim 18 , wherein the receiver comprises a demodulator.

24. The receiver according to claim 18 , wherein the receiver is configured to retransmit data to a separate external device.

25. A method comprising receiving a signal at a receiver comprising a receiver element configured to receive a conductively transmitted signal emitted by an identifier that conductively transmits a signal upon contact with an internal target physiological site, wherein the receiver further comprises a data storage element, and wherein the method further comprises storing, at the data storage element, at least one of time, date and identity of an ingested composition.

26. The method according to claim 25 , wherein the signal is a conductively transmitted signal.

27. The method according to claim 26 , wherein the conductively transmitted signal has a frequency that ranges from 1 KHz to 100 MHz.

28. The method according to claim 25 , wherein the receiver element comprises a receiving antenna configured to detect potential differences in a body.

29. The method according to claim 28 , wherein the receiving antenna comprises two electrodes spaced apart from each other at a distance sufficient to detect a differential voltage.

30. The method according to claim 25 , wherein the receiver comprises an amplifier.

31. The method according to claim 25 , wherein the receiver comprises a demodulator.

32. The method according to claim 25 , wherein the receiver is configured to retransmit data to a separate external device.

33. The method according to claim 32 , wherein the method further comprises transmitting a signal from the receiver to the separate external device.
