Abstract

In embodiments of the present invention improved capabilities are described for conserving computer resources by processing data through the use of a first virtual machine, causing the first virtual machine to share information about the processing of the data with a second virtual machine, and causing the second virtual machine to alter an activity as a result of the shared information, causing the host to share the information with a second virtual machine to alter an activity of the second virtual machine, causing the first virtual machine to share information about the action with a second virtual machine to alter a process of the second virtual machine, and the like.

Claims (31)

1 . A computer program product embodied in a computer readable medium that, when executing on one or more computers, conserves computer resources by performing the steps of:

processing data through the use of a first virtual machine;

causing the first virtual machine to share information about the processing of the data with a second virtual machine; and

causing the second virtual machine to alter an activity as a result of the shared information.

2 . The computer program product of claim 1 , wherein the first and second virtual machines reside on the same physical machine.

3 . The computer program product of claim 1 , wherein the first and second virtual machines reside on separate physical machines.

4 . The computer program product of claim 1 , wherein the shared information is shared over a network.

5 . The computer program product of claim 1 , wherein the shared information relates to malware that was discovered as a result of the data processing.

6 . A computer program product embodied in a computer readable medium that, when executing on one or more computers, conserves computer resources by performing the steps of:

processing data through the use of a first virtual machine;

causing the first virtual machine to share information about the processing of the data with a host; and

causing the host to share the information with a second virtual machine to alter an activity of the second virtual machine.

7 . The computer program product of claim 6 , wherein the first and second virtual machines reside on the same physical machine.

8 . The computer program product of claim 6 , wherein the first and second virtual machines reside on separate physical machines.

9 . The computer program product of claim 6 , wherein the shared information is shared over a network.

10 . The computer program product of claim 6 , wherein the shared information relates to malware that was discovered as a result of the data processing.

11 . The computer program product of claim 6 , wherein the shared information is associated with configuration information.

12 . The computer program product of claim 11 , wherein the configuration information is associated with firewall configuration information.

13 . The computer program product of claim 10 , wherein the information is associated with state information.

14 . The computer program product of claim 10 , wherein the information is associated with malware detection.

15 . The computer program product of claim 10 , wherein the information is associated with an application state.

16 . The computer program product of claim 10 , wherein the information is associated with an operating system state.

17 . A computer program product embodied in a computer readable medium that, when executing on one or more computers, conserves computer resources by performing the steps of:

scanning data received from a networked source;

causing a first virtual machine to take an action based on the scanned data;

causing the first virtual machine to share information about the action with a second virtual machine to alter a process of the second virtual machine.

18 . The computer program product of claim 17 , wherein the first and second virtual machines reside on the same physical machine.

19 . The computer program product of claim 17 , wherein the first and second virtual machines reside on separate physical machines.

20 . The computer program product of claim 17 , wherein the shared information is shared over a network.

21 . The computer program product of claim 17 , wherein the shared information relates to malware that was discovered as a result of the data processing.

22 . The computer program product of claim 17 , wherein the scanning is done through a physical machine.
