Abstract

A valve loading system is provided that uses a valve loader to transfer a valve or other medical device from a storage cartridge into a deployment catheter. The valve or other medical device can be implanted or positioned within a patient using the catheter after the valve or other medical device has been compressed and loaded into the catheter using the valve loader. The process then can be repeated by using the valve loading system to load or introduce another valve or other medical device into the catheter.

Claims (20)

1. A deployment catheter system for the deployment of a medical device, the deployment catheter system comprising:

a catheter shaft comprising a proximal end and a distal end;

a cavity inside a distal portion of the catheter shaft adapted to receive a medical device;

a locator marking disposed along the distal portion of the catheter shaft, the locator marking being viewable from an outside of the catheter shaft, and the locator marking corresponding to an approximate deployment site of the medical device disposed within the catheter shaft;

a rigid tip disposed at a distal end of the cavity inside the catheter shaft, the rigid tip able to accommodate at least a portion of the medical device loaded therein; and

an at least partially transparent segment disposed between the locator marking and the rigid tip, the at least partially transparent segment permitting visualization of at least a portion of the cavity near the distal end of the catheter shaft;

wherein the locator marking comprises one or more pigmented bands;

wherein the pigmented bands comprise a yellow pigmented band with two black pigmented bands disposed on either side of the yellow pigmented band;

wherein the medical device is a valve,

wherein the catheter shaft further comprises a strain relief tube extending over at least a proximal portion of the catheter shaft,

wherein a thickness of the strain relief tube is adapted to fill substantially all of the distance between an outer surface of the catheter shaft and an inner surface of a bronchoscope into which the catheter shaft is inserted.

2. The catheter system of claim 1 , wherein the catheter shaft further comprises a stabilization wire extending within the catheter shaft.

3. The catheter system of claim 2 , wherein the catheter shaft retracts relative to the stabilization wire during deployment of the medical device.

4. The catheter system of claim 1 , wherein the strain relief tube comprises a lubricious material.

5. The catheter system of claim 4 , wherein the lubricious material is polytetrafluoroethylene.

6. The catheter system of claim 1 , wherein the catheter shaft is disposed within a working channel of the bronchoscope and wherein the bronchoscope is a 2.0 mm bronchoscope.

7. The catheter system of claim 1 , wherein the catheter shaft is disposed within a working channel of the bronchoscope and wherein the bronchoscope is a 2.6 mm bronchoscope.

8. The catheter system of claim 1 , wherein a clearance between an outer surface of the strain relief tube and an inner lumen surface of the bronchoscope is between 0.5% and 3%.

9. The catheter system of claim 1 , wherein a clearance between an inner surface of the strain relief tube and an outer surface of the catheter shaft is between 1.8% to 5.1%.

10. The catheter system of claim 1 , wherein the distal portion of the catheter shaft further comprises at least a segment of coils.
