Abstract

A printhead is provided having a substrate with a plurality of ejection nozzles a plurality of adjacently arranged structures laminated with the substrate. Each nozzle has an inlet for supplying ejection fluid to the nozzle. The structures have a plurality of passages distributing the ejection fluid to the inlets of the nozzles. Each structure has elongate apertures to the passages. The long dimension of the elongate apertures in the abutting sides of adjacent structures are angled relative to each other.

Claims (9)

1. A printhead comprising:

a substrate having a plurality of ejection nozzles, each nozzle having an inlet for supplying ejection fluid to the nozzle; and

a plurality of adjacently arranged structures laminated on the substrate, the structures having a plurality of passages distributing the ejection fluid to the inlets of the nozzles,

wherein each structure has elongate apertures to the passages, the long dimension of the elongate apertures in the abutting sides of adjacent structures being angled relative to each other.

2. The printhead of claim 1 wherein the apertures in at least one the structures is a series of channels.

3. The printhead of claim 1 wherein the nozzles are arranged to extend across a pagewidth.

4. The printhead of claim 1 wherein the areal density of the nozzles relative to the substrate exceeds 10,000 nozzles per square cm of substrate.

5. The printhead assembly of claim 1 wherein the substrate defines a nozzle plate, the nozzle plate being formed by chemical vapor deposition.

6. The printhead assembly of claim 1 wherein the nozzle plate is less than 10 microns thick.
