Abstract

An inkjet printhead that has an elongate chassis with a first set of apertures, an ink distribution unit for connection to an ink supply, and a plurality of printhead modules supported along the elongate chassis. The ink distribution unit has a plurality of ink distribution passages for connecting the ink supply to a second set of apertures and is supported on the chassis such that the plurality of printhead modules are supplied with ink from the second set of apertures via the first set of apertures.

Claims (11)

1. An inkjet printhead comprising:

an elongate chassis with a first set of apertures;

an ink distribution unit for connection to an ink supply, the ink distribution unit having a plurality of ink distribution passages for connecting the ink supply to a second set of apertures; and

a plurality of printhead modules supported along the elongate chassis; wherein,

the ink distribution unit is supported on the chassis such that during use, the plurality of printhead modules are supplied with ink from the first set of apertures which in turn are supplied the second set of apertures.

2. An inkjet printhead as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the printhead modules each define an elongate array of ink ejection nozzles, the longitudinal extent of the elongate arrays being parallel to each other.

3. An inkjet printhead as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the longitudinal extent of each of the elongate arrays is inclined to the longitudinal extent of the elongate chassis.

4. An inkjet printhead as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the longitudinal extent of each of the elongate arrays overlap each other with respect to the longitudinal extent of the elongate chassis.

5. An inkjet printhead as claimed in claim 2 , wherein each of the printhead modules has a multi-layer substrate defining the elongate array of ink ejection nozzles, an exterior layer of the multi-layer substrate being a nozzle layer in which nozzle apertures are defined, the nozzle layer having integral side walls extending from an interior side of the nozzle layer.

6. An inkjet printhead as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the multi-layer substrate has CMOS layers and a layer of resistive heater elements, each of the resistive heater elements being positioned between the CMOS layers and one of the nozzle apertures respectively.

7. An inkjet printhead as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the elongate chassis has a channel such that the ink distribution unit is supported in the channel and the plurality of printhead modules are supported on an exterior surface of the channel.
