Abstract

A fuze mounting assembly for a penetrating weapon configured as a projectable device, the fuze mounting assembly having fasteners, a fuze well and a fuze. The fuze includes an integral bolt flange for securing to the fuze well with the fasteners, wherein an amplification of acceleration of less than 3.0 is satisfied when the penetrating weapon is subjected to impact and penetration shock. Additionally, a projectable device having the fuze is provided. Also, a fuze mounting and a method for mounting a fuze are provided.

Claims (43)

1. A method for mounting a fuze, the method comprising:

disposing a fuze including a radially extending flange portion having a plurality of apertures formed therein into a fuze well;

attaching the radially extending flange portion of the fuze to a flange seating portion of the fuze well having a plurality of apertures formed therein at a plurality of circumferential locations comprising:

extending at least one fastener through at least one aperture of the plurality of apertures formed in the radially extending flange portion of the fuze and into at least one aperture of the plurality of apertures in the flange seating portion of the fuze well; and

tightening the at least one fastener to secure the fuze to the fuze well.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein attaching the radially extending flange portion of the fuze to a flange seating portion of the fuze well further comprises threading the at least one fastener into the at least one aperture of the plurality of apertures in the flange seating portion of the fuze well.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein attaching the radially extending flange portion of the fuze to a flange seating portion of the fuze well further comprises threading the at least one fastener comprising a bolt into the at least one aperture of the plurality of apertures in the flange seating portion of the fuze well.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein attaching the radially extending flange portion of the fuze to a flange seating portion of the fuze well further comprises threading the at least one fastener comprising a threaded stud into the at least one aperture of the plurality of apertures in the flange seating portion of the fuze well.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein attaching the radially extending flange portion of the fuze to a flange seating portion of the fuze well further comprises threading the at least one fastener comprising a stud and a jack nut into the at least one aperture of the plurality of apertures in the flange seating portion of the fuze well.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein attaching the radially extending flange portion of the fuze to a flange seating portion of the fuze well further comprises threading the at least one fastener comprising a jack-bolt into the at least one aperture of the plurality of apertures in the flange seating portion of the fuze well.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising engaging a threaded coupling formed on a portion of an exterior of the fuze with a portion of a complementary threaded coupling formed in the fuze well.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

installing the fuze mounted in the fuze well in a weapon.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising effecting mounting of the fuze to provide an amplification of acceleration during impact and penetration shock of less than 3.0.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising effecting mounting of the fuze to provide an amplification of acceleration of less than 2.6.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising effecting mounting of the fuze to provide an amplification of acceleration of less than 2.2.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising effecting mounting of the fuze to provide, during impact and penetration shock, an amplification of deceleration of less than −2.7 and an amplification of acceleration of less than 3.0.

13. The method of claim 1 , further comprising effecting mounting of the fuze to provide an amplification of deceleration of less than −3.2 and an amplification of acceleration of less than 2.6.

14. The method of claim 1 , further comprising effecting mounting of the fuze to provide an amplification of deceleration of less than −2.3 and an amplification of acceleration of less than 2.2.

15. A method for mounting a fuze, the method comprising:

inserting a portion of a fuze including a radially extending flange having a plurality of mounting holes therein and a threaded coupling on a portion of an exterior thereof into a receiving well of a fuze well having a flange seating portion having a plurality of threaded holes therein;

abutting the radially extending flange of the fuze against at least a portion of the flange seating portion of the fuze well;

attaching the radially extending flange of the fuze to the flange seating portion of the fuze well at a plurality of circumferential locations using at least one fastener comprising inserting the at least one fastener through at least one mounting hole of the plurality of mounting holes in the radially extending flange of the fuze and into a portion of at least one threaded hole of the plurality of threaded holes in the flange seating portion of the fuze well; and

tightening the fastener to secure the fuze to the fuze well.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising forming a complementary threaded coupling on a portion of the fuze well.

17. The method of claim 16 , further comprising:

engaging a portion of the threaded coupling of the fuze with a portion of the complementary threaded coupling of the fuze well.

18. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

installing the fuze mounted in the fuze well in a weapon.

19. The method of claim 15 , further comprising installing the fuze mounted in the fuze well in a penetrating weapon.

20. The method of claim 15 , further comprising housing at least one of an exploding foil initiator, fuze electronics, a fuze acceleration sensor, and a lead charge in the fuze.

21. The method of claim 20 , further comprising:

mounting at least one of an exploding foil initiator, fuze electronics, a fuze acceleration sensor, and a lead charge using potting in the fuze.

22. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

mounting at least one of an exploding foil initiator, fuze electronics, a fuze acceleration sensor, and a lead charge in the fuze.

23. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

fastening at least one of an exploding foil initiator, fuze electronics, a fuze acceleration sensor, and a lead charge in the fuze.

24. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

securing at least one of an exploding foil initiator, fuze electronics, a fuze acceleration sensor, and a lead charge in the fuze.
