Inkjet printer system with interchangeable printhead cartridges and cradles
View Patent ↗An inkjet printer system comprises a first cartridge having one or more ink storage reservoirs, an ink delivery assembly, and a printhead integrated circuit. The system further comprises a second cartridge having one or more ink storage reservoirs, an ink delivery assembly, and a printhead integrated circuit, and having a performance characteristic differing from that of the first cartridge. A first cradle is provided for receiving a cartridge, the cradle having a first controller board for controlling a printhead integrated circuit of the received cartridge. A second cradle is further provided for receiving a cartridge, the cradle having a second controller board for controlling a printhead integrated circuit of the received cartridge. The first cartridge, second cartridge, first cradle, and second cradle, are user interchangeable to vary a performance of the inkjet printer system.
1. An inkjet printer system comprising:
a first cartridge having one or more ink storage reservoirs, an ink delivery assembly, and a printhead integrated circuit;
a second cartridge having one or more ink storage reservoirs, an ink delivery assembly, and a printhead integrated circuit, the second cartridge further having a performance characteristic differing from that of the first cartridge;
a first cradle for receiving a cartridge, the cradle having a first controller board for controlling a printhead integrated circuit of the received cartridge; and
a second cradle for receiving a cartridge, the cradle having a second controller board for controlling a printhead integrated circuit of the received cartridge, wherein
the first cartridge, second cartridge, first cradle, and second cradle, are user interchangeable to vary a performance of the inkjet printer system.
2. The inkjet printer system according to claim 1 , wherein the second controller board has a greater number of print engine controllers than the first controller board.
3. The inkjet printer system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more ink storage reservoirs of the second cartridge have a larger capacity than the one or more ink storage reservoirs of the first cartridge.
4. The inkjet printer system according to claim 1 , wherein the printhead of the second cartridge has more nozzles than the printhead of the first cartridge.
5. The inkjet printer system according to claim 1 , wherein the ink storage reservoirs are each individually refillable.
6. The inkjet printer system according to claim 5 , wherein each ink storage reservoir is refillable while the cartridge is received in the cradle.
