Abstract

Embolic implants delivery systems and methods of manufacture and delivery are disclosed. The devices can be used for aneurysm and/or fistula treatment. The designs offer low profile compressibility for delivery to neurovasculature, while maintaining advantageous delivery and implant detachment control features.

Claims (21)

1. An implant delivery system comprising:

a tubular braid implant having proximal and distal ends;

an elongate sleeve;

a core member carrying a plurality of expanders underlying the implant:

the proximal end of the implant constrained radially between a braid section of the sleeve and a proximal cover;

the distal end of the implant being constrained radially between the braid section of the sleeve and a distal cover, separate and distinct from the proximal cover,

wherein the braid section is expandable by withdrawal of the core member, and the proximal cover and distal cover are each openable by a force from movement of the plurality of underlying expanders against the braid section;

wherein the plurality of expanders are axially between the proximal cover and the distal cover, and the plurality of expanders are movable under the braid section, the proximal cover, and the distal cover by withdrawal of the core member.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cover is adapted to open by tearing.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cover is adapted to open by rupturing.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein each of the expanders comprises a wedge body.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the wedge body comprises a plurality of bands.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein each of the expanders comprises a coil.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein an atraumatic tip is mounted to the core member.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the core member comprises a material selected from a group consisting of metal wire and polymeric filament.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the core member comprises a metal wire, and a coil is affixed thereto under at least a proximal, covered end of the implant.

10. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a jacket over a distal portion of the braid section.

11. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a jacket under the distal end of the implant.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein a middle section of the implant is neither covered by the proximal cover nor covered by the distal cover.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least a portion of the expanders has a diameter greater than a section proximal to the at least a portion of the expanders.

14. The system of claim 1 , wherein, after withdrawal of the core member to expand the braid section, the braid section is more expanded at a location that is over the plurality of underlying expanders, and the braid section is less expanded at a location that is not over the plurality of underlying expanders.
