Abstract

A method and apparatus of lighting a marine habitat for growth utilizing an LED light system. The light system includes an LED light source, a power supply for such light source and a controller for controlling the activation status and the intensity of the LED light source.

20 . A lighting system for a marine habitat having an open top defined by a top edge, the lighting system comprising:

an LEDlight source that provides a main source of lighting to the marine habitat and supports marine growth in the marine habitat, the LED light source comprising a plurality of LEDs; and

a cooling system that provides cooling to the LED light source.

21 . The system of claim 20 , further comprising:

a controller for controlling activation status and intensity of one or more of the plurality of LEDs.

22 . The system of claim 21 , further comprising:

a power supply sufficient to drive the plurality of LEDs, the controller is connected with the power supply.

23 . The system of claim 20 , wherein the LED light source includes at least one of chip-based, organiz or discreet LEDs.

24 . A method of lighting a marine habitat for marine growth, having an open top defined by a top edge, the method comprising:

providing an LED light source that provides a main source of lighting to the marine habitat;

providing a power supply to drive the LED light source;

providing a cooling system to cool the LED light source; and

controlling illumination of the LED light source at a level sufficient to support the marine growth.

25 . The method of claim 24 , wherein controlling illumination of the LED light source includes controlling at least one of (a) lighting period, (b) light spectral content, (c) light spatial content, (d) light intensity, and (e) decorative patterns of the LED light source.

26 . The method of claim 24 , further comprising controlling activation status of the LED light source.

27 . The method of claim 24 , further comprising controlling intensity of the LED light light source.

28 . A method of lighting a marine habitat for marine growth, the method comprising:

providing an LED light source disposed on an inner side of a housing;

positioning the housing over an open top of the marine habitat;

providing a power supply to drive the LED light source;

providing a cooling system to cool the LED light source; and

controlling illumination of the LED light source at a level sufficient to support the marine growth.

29 . The method of claim 28 , wherein controlling illumination of the LED light source includes controlling at least one of (a) lighting period, (b) light spectral content, (c) light spatial content, (d) light intensity, and (e) decorative patterns of the LED light source.

30 . The method of claim 28 , further comprising controlling activation status of the LED light source.

31 . The method of claim 28 , further comprising controlling intensity of the LED light source.
