Coated pipes for harsh environments
View Patent ↗The present invention relates to a pipe, especially an oil pipe, having a lining comprising a fluoropolymer adhered to its interior surface and a lining formed on its exterior surface. The interior and/or exterior lining may comprise a primer layer comprising a fluoropolymer, and preferably a perfluoropolymer and an overcoat or a preformed film adhered to the primer layer. Either the overcoat or the preformed liner also comprises a fluoropolymer, and preferably a perfluoropolymer. The surface of the lining facing the flowable media, such as oil, may be a pure perfluoropolymer to provide a particularly good non-stick surface for the oil.
1. Process for forming nonstick surface and insulating linings on a rigid pipe, comprising (a) forming an adherent fluoropolymer lining on the interior surface of the rigid pipe from liquid-based composition containing said fluoropolymer, and (b) forming an insulating lining on the exterior of the rigid pipe.
2. The process of claim 1 , wherein the exterior lining is wrapped around the exterior of the rigid pipe.
3. The process of claim 1 , wherein the exterior lining is slipped over the exterior of the rigid pipe.
4. The process of claim 1 , wherein said rigid pipe is at least 20 feet long.
