Abstract

Adhesive devices used as wound dressings, ingredient delivery devices and IV hold-downs include a handling layer comprised of a layer of conductive material and at least one layer of non-conductive material, adhered to the non-adhesive coated side of an adhesive coated polymeric film layer, by an electrostatic charge, rather than by an adhesive.

Claims (72)

1. A wound dressing/ingredient delivery device/IV hold-down comprising:

a non-conductive layer which is adhesively coated on at least a first portion of a first side to facilitate adhesion to a patient;

a release liner in contact with the entire first portion of the first side of the non-conductive layer;

a handling member comprising at least one layer of non-conductive handle material, wherein:

at least one of the non-conductive layer and the handling member further comprises a layer of conductive material fixed to the non-conductive layer or the layer of non-conductive handle material, respectively; and wherein:

the handling member is electrostatically adhered to the non-conductive layer solely by electrostatic attraction, without an adhesive.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein:

the conductive material comprises a conductive film.

3. The device of claim 2 , wherein:

the handling member comprises the conductive film sandwiched between a first and a second non-conductive layer.

4. The device of claim 2 , wherein:

the conductive material of the handling member is adjacent to and electrostatically interacts with the second side of the non-conductive layer.

5. The device of claim 2 , wherein:

the non-conductive material of the handling member is adjacent to and electrostatically interacts with the second side of the non-conductive layer.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein:

the non-conductive handle material defines a perimeter edge and the handling member further comprises a first tab member extending away from a portion of the perimeter edge.

7. The device of claim 6 , wherein:

the first tab member is abuttingly disposed against a first end of the non-conductive handle material.

8. The device of claim 7 , including:

a piece of adhesively backed tape connecting the first tab member to the handling member.

9. The device of claim 6 , including:

the release liner includes a second tab portion which overlaps the first tab member of the handling member.

10. The device of claim 1 , wherein:

the handling member includes a central opening.

11. The device of claim 1 , wherein:

the first portion of the first side of the non-conductive layer is coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive.

12. The device of claim 1 , wherein:

the release liner is made from a paper product and a first side of the release liner is coated with a silicone.

13. A wound dressing/ingredient delivery device/IV hold-down comprising:

a non-conductive layer which is coated on a first side with adhesive material to facilitate adhesion to a patient, the first side defining a peripheral edge portion extending around a periphery of the non-conductive layer;

a release liner in contact with the peripheral edge portion of the non-conductive layer;

a handling member comprising at least one layer of non-conductive handle material; wherein:

at least one of the non-conductive layer and the handling member further comprises a layer of conductive material fixed to the non-conductive layer or to the layer of non-conductive handle material, respectively; and wherein:

the handling member is electrostatically adhered to the non-conductive layer, without an adhesive.

14. A wound dressing/ingredient delivery device/IV hold-down comprising:

a non-conductive layer which is adhesively coated on at least a first portion of a first side to facilitate adhesion to a patient;

a release liner in contact with the entire first portion of the first side of the non-conductive layer;

a handling member comprising at least one layer of non-conductive handle material, wherein:

at least one of the non-conductive layer and the handling member further comprises a layer of conductive material fixed to the non-conductive layer or the layer of non-conductive handle material, respectively;

the handling member is electrostatically adhered to a second side of the non-conductive layer, opposite from the adhesive coated side whereby the handling member is adhered to the non-conductive layer solely by electrostatic attraction, without an adhesive; and

the release liner is in contact with the entire first side of the non-conductive layer.

15. A wound dressing/ingredient delivery device/IV hold-down comprising:

a non-conductive layer which is adhesively coated on at least a first portion of a first side to facilitate adhesion to a patient;

a release liner in contact with the entire first portion of the first side of the non-conductive layer;

a handling member comprising at least one layer of non-conductive handle material, wherein:

at least one of the non-conductive layer and the handling member further comprises a layer of conductive material fixed to the non-conductive layer or the layer of non-conductive handle material, respectively; and wherein:

the handling member is electrostatically adhered to a second side of the non-conductive layer, opposite from the adhesive coated side whereby the handling member is adhered to the non-conductive layer solely by electrostatic attraction, without an adhesive;

the non-conductive layer defines an edge and a thickness at the edge;

the handling member defines a first side surface that faces the release liner, and wherein the handling member includes a tab that projects outwardly beyond the edge of the non-conductive layer;

the release liner includes a tab that projects outwardly beyond the edge of the non-conductive layer, the tab of the release liner overlapping the tab of the handling member; and wherein:

the tab of the release liner defines a first side surface facing the first side surface of the handling member, and wherein the first side surfaces of the handling member and the release liner are spaced apart to define a gap that is equal to the thickness of the non-conductive layer at the edge of the non-conductive layer.

16. The device of claim 15 , wherein:

the entire first side surface of the handling member is flat.

17. The device of claim 15 , wherein:

the tab of the handling member defines an outer edge, and the tab of the release liner projects outwardly beyond the outer edge of the handling member.

18. A wound dressing/ingredient delivery device/IV hold-down comprising:

a non-conductive polymeric film defining upper and lower opposite side surfaces, wherein the lower side surface is adhesively coated to facilitate adhesion to a patient;

a release liner in contact with the entire adhesively coated lower side surface of the non-conductive polymeric film;

a handling member comprising at least one layer of non-conductive handle material; and wherein:

the handling member is in direct contact with the upper side surface of the non-conductive polymeric film, and wherein the handling member is electrostatically adhered to the non-conductive polymeric film solely by electrostatic adhesion.

19. The device of claim 18 , wherein:

at least one of the handling member and the non-conductive polymeric film further comprise a layer of conductive material.

20. A wound dressing/ingredient delivery device/IV hold-down comprising:

a non-conductive polymeric film defining first and second opposite sides, wherein the entire first side of the non-conductive polymeric film is coated with an adhesive to facilitate adhesion to a patient;

a release liner in contact with the entire first side of the non-conductive polymeric film;

a handling member comprising at least one layer of non-conductive handle material, wherein the handling member does not contact the adhesively coated first side of the layer of non-conductive polymeric film; wherein:

at least one of the layer of non-conductive polymeric film and the handling member further comprises a layer of conductive material fixed to the layer of non-conductive polymeric film or the layer of non-conductive handle material, respectively; and wherein:

the handling member is electrostatically adhered to the non-conductive polymeric film without contacting the adhesive on the first side of the non-conductive polymeric film.

21. The device of claim 20 , wherein:

the entire handling member is substantially planar.

22. The device of claim 20 , wherein:

the entire handling member is flat.
