Claims (7)

1. A granular precipitate consisting essentially of creatine hydrochloride salt formed from the reaction product of creatine monohydrate and acetyl chloride dissolved in a solution comprising a short chain alcohol, wherein the granular precipitate has an aqueous solubility of at least 150 mg/ml.

2. The granular precipitate of claim 1 , wherein the creatine monohydrate is reacted with acetyl chloride in an amount of about 0.8 to about 1.2 mole equivalent.

3. The granular precipitate of claim 1 , wherein the acetyl chloride is reacted with the creatine monohydrate in an amount of about 1.1 to about 1.4 mole equivalent.

4. The granular precipitate of claim 1 , wherein the short chain alcohol is selected from the group consisting of methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, and isopropanol.

5. The granular precipitate of claim 1 , wherein the short chain alcohol is ethanol.

6. The granular precipitate of claim 5 , wherein the creatine monohydrate and the acetyl chloride are dissolved in about 6 to about 10 milliliters ethanol solution per gram of creatine hydrochloride salt at a temperature of about 25° C. to about 35° C.

7. The supplement of claim 1 , wherein the yield of creatine hydrochloride salt is approximately 94 percent.
