Releasably engaging high definition multimedia interface plug

1. A releasably engaging high definition multimedia interface plug comprising:

a high definition multimedia interface connection end;

a connector body having an opening, the connector body operable with a slidable actuator having a ramped portion of a forward edge, the ramped portion of the forward edge of the actuator positionable below a flexible engagement member, the flexible engagement member having a locking tab residing thereon;

wherein, when the actuator is slidably moved in a first axial direction relative to the interface connection end, the ramped portion of the forward edge of the actuator obtains a position where it is in contact with and below the flexible engagement member and the locking tab is biased to protrude from the opening of the body; and

wherein, when the actuator is slidably moved in a second opposite axial direction relative to the interface connection end, the ramped portion of the forward edge of the actuator obtains a position where it is not in contact with and not below the flexible engagement member and the locking tab resides substantially within the opening of the body.

The releasably engaging plug of claim 1 , further comprising a body extension having two locking posts and two unlocking posts residing thereon, wherein the body extension includes the at least one opening and the flexible engagement member, and wherein the flexible engagement member is flexibly coupled to the body extension proximate the interface connection end.

3. The releasably engaging plug of claim 2 , further comprising:

a lock button having a spring biased member, two locking hooks, and two unlocking hooks, the two locking hooks being operable with the two locking posts of the body extension, the two unlocking hooks being operable with the two unlocking posts of the body extension; and

an engagement member having an engagement opening and wherein the actuator interacts with the lock button by means of the engagement member and is operable with the body to move the actuator.

4. The releasably engaging plug of claim 3 , further comprising:

a first position of the actuator, wherein the ramped portion of the forward edge of the actuator is in contact with and in a position below the flexible engagement member so that the locking tab residing on the flexible engagement member physically contacts and extends into engagement with a typical sidewall opening of a corresponding standard high definition multimedia interface receptacle into which the releasably engaging plug has been inserted; and

a second position of the actuator, wherein the ramped portion of the forward edge of the actuator is not in contact with and not in a position below the flexible engagement member so that the locking tab residing on the flexible engagement member does not contact nor extend into engagement with a typical sidewall opening of the corresponding standard high definition multimedia interface receptacle into which the releasably engaging plug has been inserted.

The releasably engaging plug of claim 1 , wherein the ramped portion of the forward edge of the actuator is located to move the locking tab residing on the at least one flexible engagement member into or out of engagement with a spring biased tab of standard high definition multimedia interface receptacle.

The releasably engaging plug of claim 4 , wherein the first position of the actuator is achieved when the two locking hooks of the lock button engage and partially surround the two locking posts of the body extension, and additionally when the two unlocking hooks of the lock button are not in contact with and not partially surrounding the two unlocking posts of the body extension.

The releasably engaging plug of claim 4 , wherein the second position of the actuator is achieved when the two unlocking hooks of the lock button engage and partially surround the two unlocking posts of the body extension, and additionally when the two locking hooks of the lock button are not in contact with and not partially surrounding the two locking posts of the body extension.

8. The releasably engaging plug of claim 1 further comprising at least one terminal contact positioned within an inner section of the body.

9. The releasably engaging plug of claim 1 further comprising a cable connected to the plug body.

10. The releasably engaging plug of claim 1 , wherein the connector body further comprises a plug top, a plug bottom, and a plug cable receiver, wherein the plug top and plug bottom are slidably mounted on a shank of the plug cable receiver of the connector body.

11. A releasably engaging high definition multimedia interface plug comprising:

a connector body;

a lock button, operable with the connector body, the lock button having a locked position and an unlocked position;

a movable actuator, the actuator operable with the lock button;

a locking tab configured to be moved by a forward edge of the actuator; a first position of the actuator corresponding to the locked position of the lock button, wherein the actuator moves the locking tab, so that the locking tab extends into engagement with a typical sidewall opening of a corresponding standard high definition multimedia interface receptacle into which the releasably engaging plug has been inserted; and a second position of the actuator corresponding to the unlocked position of the lock button, wherein the actuator resides in a position away from the locking tab, so that the locking tab does not contact nor extend into engagement with a typical sidewall opening of the corresponding standard high definition multimedia interface receptacle into which the releasably engaging plug has been inserted, wherein the lock button includes a spring biased member, two locking hooks, and two unlocking hooks, the two locking hooks being operable with two locking posts associated with the body when the lock button is in said locked position, the two unlocking hooks being operable with two said unlocking posts associated with the body when the lock button is in said unlocked position.

12. The releasably engaging plug of claim 11 , further comprising an engagement member having an engagement opening, the engagement opening operably contacting an engagement edge of the actuator.

13. The releasably engaging plug of claim 12 , wherein the engagement member interacts with the lock button operable with the body to move the actuator.

14. The releasably engaging plug of claim 11 further comprising at least one terminal contact positioned within an inner section of the body.

15. The releasably engaging plug of claim 11 further comprising a cable connected to the plug body.

16. The releasably engaging plug of claim 11 , wherein the actuator is located to move the locking tab into or out of engagement with a spring biased tab of the standard high definition multimedia interface receptacle.
