Abstract

A differential connector has a plurality of rows. Each row includes a plurality of signal conductors provided as differential pairs. Each signal conductor has a first contact end connectable to a printed circuit board, a second contact end, and an intermediate portion having a first width. For each differential pair, one first contact end lies along a first line parallel to the plurality of rows and the other first contact end lies along a second line parallel to and spaced from the first line. The differential connector further includes a plurality of ground conductors, with each ground conductor corresponding to a differential pair. Each ground conductor has a first contact end connectable to the printed circuit board, a second contact end, and an intermediate portion having a second width that is at least twice the first width.

Claims (25)

1. An electrical connector, the electrical connector comprising:

a ground conductor with a first contact end, a second contact end, and an intermediate portion therebetween;

a first contact arm disposed at the first contact end of the ground conductor;

a second contact arm disposed at the first contact end of the ground conductor and spaced from the first contact arm; and

a signal conductor disposed adjacent to the first contact arm, the second contact arm, and a portion of the intermediate portion of the ground conductor,

wherein the signal conductor is a plurality of signal conductors forming a differential pair with a first signal conductor and a second signal conductor, the first signal conductor has a first contact end, the second signal conductor has a second contact end, and the first contact end and second contact end extend in opposite directions.

2. The electrical connector according to claim 1 , wherein the ground conductor is a plurality of ground conductors.

3. The electrical connector according to claim 1 , wherein the plurality of ground conductors are arranged in a row.

4. An electrical connector, the electrical connector comprising:

a ground conductor with a first contact end, a second contact end, and an intermediate portion therebetween, the intermediate portion including a planar portion;

a first contact arm disposed at the first contact end of the ground conductor substantially orthogonal to the planar portion of the intermediate portion;

a second contact arm disposed at the first contact end of the ground conductor substantially orthogonal to the planar portion of the intermediate portion and spaced from the first contact arm; and

a signal conductor disposed adjacent to the first contact arm, the second contact arm, and a portion of the intermediate portion of the ground conductor,

wherein the signal conductor is a plurality of signal conductors forming a differential pair with a first signal conductor and a second signal conductor, the first signal conductor has a first contact end, the second signal conductor has a second contact end, and the first contact end and second contact end extend in opposite directions.

5. The electrical connector according to claim 4 , wherein the ground conductor is a plurality of ground conductors.

6. The electrical connector according to claim 5 , wherein the plurality of ground conductors are arranged in a row.

7. An electrical connector, the electrical connector comprising:

a ground conductor with a first contact end, a second contact end, and an intermediate portion therebetween, the intermediate portion including a planar portion;

a first contact arm disposed at the first contact end of the ground conductor substantially orthogonal to the planar portion of the intermediate portion;

a second contact arm disposed at the first contact end of the ground conductor substantially orthogonal to the planar portion of the intermediate portion and spaced from the first contact arm, and

a plurality of signal conductors forming at least one differential pair, each differential pair having a first signal conductor and a second signal conductor, the first signal conductor has a first contact end, the second signal conductor has a second contact end, and the first contact end and second contact end extend in opposite directions.

8. The electrical connector according to claim 7 , further comprising:

a signal conductor disposed adjacent to the first contact arm, the second contact arm, and a portion of the intermediate portion of the ground conductor.

9. The electrical connector according to claim 7 , wherein the ground conductor is a plurality of ground conductors.

10. The electrical connector according to claim 9 , wherein the plurality of ground conductors are arranged in a row.
