Abstract

A nozzle arrangement is provided for ejecting ink. The nozzle arrangement includes a substrate assembly defining an ink inlet passage. A nozzle chamber structure extends from the substrate assembly to define a nozzle chamber in fluid communication with the ink inlet passage. The nozzle chamber structure defines an aperture through which ink in the nozzle chamber can be ejected. A pair of parallel heater elements extends from the nozzle chamber structure and into the nozzle chamber, and can be supplied with current so that ink in the nozzle chamber is ejected out through the aperture. The heater elements include legs embedded within the nozzle chamber structure and terminate in feet embedded within the substrate assembly.

Claims (8)

1. A nozzle arrangement for ejecting ink, the nozzle arrangement comprising:

a substrate assembly defining an ink inlet passage;

a nozzle chamber structure extending from said substrate assembly to define a nozzle chamber in fluid communication with the ink inlet passage, and defining an aperture through which ink in the nozzle chamber can be ejected; and

a pair of parallel heater elements extending from the nozzle chamber structure and into the nozzle chamber, and which can be supplied with current so that ink in the nozzle chamber is ejected out through the aperture,

wherein the heater elements include legs embedded within the nozzle chamber structure and terminate in feet embedded within the substrate assembly.

2. A nozzle arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein each heater element is formed of solid material more than 90% of which, by atomic proportion, is constituted by at least one periodic element having an atomic number below 50.

3. A nozzle arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein each heater element includes solid material and is configured for a mass of less than 10 nanograms of the solid material of that heater element to be heated to a temperature above a boiling point of the ink.

4. A nozzle arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein each heater element is substantially covered by a conformal protective coating, the coating having been applied substantially to all sides of each heater element simultaneously such that the coating is seamless.
