LIGHT EMITTING PANEL ASSEMBLIES

1 . A light emitting panel assembly comprising:

at least a panel member, a light transition member and at least one light source;

wherein the panel member has a light input surface and a light output area;

wherein the light transition member is located between the light source and the light input surface of the panel member, whereby light from the light source passes through the light transition member prior to entering the light input surface; and

wherein there are elements on or in the light transition member that effect a desired colored or white light output distribution from the light output area of the panel member.

2 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the at least one light source is an LED light source.

3 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the light transition member is a transparent sheet, plate or film attached to or positioned against the light input surface of the panel member.

4 . The assembly of claim 3 , wherein the elements on or in the sheet, plate or film vary to provide different colors of light emitted from the same light output area.

5 . The assembly of claim 4 , wherein at least some of the elements are a different color.

6 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the light emitted from the panel member has a red, blue and green component.

7 . The assembly of claim 3 , wherein the sheet, plate or film is rectangular in shape.

8 . The assembly of claim 3 , wherein the sheet, plate or film is multilayered.

9 . The assembly of claim 3 , wherein the sheet, plate or film has a coating layer.

10 . The assembly of claim 3 , wherein the sheet, plate or film is colored.

11 . The assembly of claim 3 , which includes more than one light transition member.

12 . The assembly of claim 3 , wherein the light transition member has reflective or refractive surfaces.

13 . A light emitting panel assembly comprising:

at least a panel member, and at least one LED light source;

wherein the panel member has a light input surface and a light output area and at least one transparent sheet, plate or film attached to or positioned against the light input surface; and

wherein the sheet, plate or film has a coating, surface treatment or deformities that effect the color of light passing through the sheet, plate or film prior to entering the light input surface to obtain a desired colored or white light output distribution from the light output area of the panel member.

14 . The assembly of claim 13 , wherein the coating, surface treatment or deformities on or in the sheet, plate or film produce two or more different colors of light to provide different colors of light emitted from the same light output area of the panel member.

15 . The assembly of claim 13 , wherein the light emitted from the light output area of the panel member has a red, blue and green component.

16 . The assembly of claim 13 , wherein the sheet, plate or film is rectangular in shape.

17 . The assembly of claim 13 , wherein the sheet, plate or film is multilayered.

18 . The assembly of claim 17 , wherein the sheet, plate or film has a coating layer.

19 . The assembly of claim 13 , wherein the sheet, plate or film is colored.

20 . A light emitting panel assembly comprising:

at least a panel member having a light input surface and a light output area, a light transition member and at least one LED light source;

wherein the light transition member comprises a coating or surface treatment on the light input surface;

wherein the coating or surface treatment affects the color of light emitted by the light output area of the panel member; and

wherein the light from the at least one LED light source passes through the light transition member prior to entering the light input surface of the panel member in order to effect a desired colored or white light output distribution from the light output area of the panel member.

21 . The assembly of claim 20 , wherein the coating or surface treatment produces two or more different colors of light to provide different colors of light emitted from the same light output area of the panel member.

22 . The assembly of claim 20 , wherein the light emitted from the light output area of the panel member has a red, blue and green component.

23 . The assembly of claim 20 , wherein the coating or surface treatment is multilayered.

24 . The assembly of claim 20 , which includes more than one light transition member.

25 . The assembly of claim 20 , wherein the light transition member has reflective or refractive surfaces.

26 . A light emitting panel assembly comprising:

at least a panel member, and at least one LED light source;

wherein the panel member has a light input surface and a light output area and at least one transparent sheet, plate or film attached to or positioned against the light output area; and

wherein the sheet, plate or film has a coating, surface treatment or deformities that effect the color of light passing through the sheet, plate or film to obtain a desired colored or white light output distribution from the light output area of the panel member.

27 . The assembly of claim 26 , wherein the coating, surface treatment or deformities on or in the sheet, plate or film produce two or more different colors of light to provide different colors of light emitted from the same light output area of the panel member.

28 . The assembly of claim 26 , wherein the light emitted from the sheet, plate or film has a red, blue and green component.

29 . The assembly of claim 26 , wherein the sheet, plate or film is rectangular in shape.

30 . The assembly of claim 26 , wherein the sheet, plate or film is multilayered.

31 . The assembly of claim 30 , wherein the sheet, plate or film has a coating layer.

32 . The assembly of claim 26 , wherein the sheet, plate or film is colored.
