Abstract

A payment button on a device, such as a mobile phone, allows the user to remain on the window or page from which an item was selected for purchase. When the user is ready to purchases, the button is selected, and the user simply enters an identifier, such as a password or PIN, and the transaction is processed. The button remains on the same screen and changes during different stages of the payment process.

Claims (41)

1 . A method of performing on-line payments, comprising:

receiving a payment request from a user for an item to be purchased, wherein the payment request is received from a payment button on an item screen from which the item was selected;

receiving information about the payment request;

processing the payment request based on the information; and

notifying the user, wherein the payment button remains on the item screen during the processing.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the payment button changes during different portions of a payment process.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the item screen is on a mobile phone.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user enters only an identifier when paying for the item.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the identifier is a password or PIN.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the payment button allows the user to enter information on the payment button.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the payment request is received from the user via a mobile device.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the information comprises a purchase amount, merchant information, a device identifier, and/or a user identifier.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the notifying is on the payment button.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the payment button has conditions for use predetermined by the user.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the item screen is a merchant page.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the item screen is an applications page.

13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the item is a downloadable digital good.

14 . A mobile communication device for financial transaction, comprising:

an antenna configured to communicate with a payment provider;

a processor configured to display a payment button generated from the payment provider;

a memory to store information about the financial transaction, wherein the financial transaction comprises a purchase and a payment of an item; and

a display to display the payment button, wherein the payment button changes and remains on a window where the item was purchased during a payment process.

15 . The device of claim 14 , wherein the payment process requires the user to enter only an identifier when paying for the item.

16 . The device of claim 14 , wherein the payment button allows the user to enter information on the payment button.

17 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the payment button notifies the user of the status of the payment process.

18 . A machine-readable medium comprising a plurality of machine-readable instructions which when executed by one or more processors of a server are adapted to cause the server to perform a method comprising:

receiving a payment request from a user for an item to be purchased, wherein the payment request is received from a payment button on an item screen from which the item was selected;

receiving information about the payment request;

processing the payment request based on the information; and

notifying the user, wherein the payment button remains on the item screen during the processing.

19 . The machine-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the payment button changes during different portions of a payment process.

20 . The machine-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the payment button allows the user to enter information on the payment button.

21 . The machine-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the payment button notifies the user of a status of the processing.

22 . An on-line payment system comprising:

means for receiving a payment request from a user for an item to be purchased, wherein the payment request is received from a payment button on an item screen from which the item was selected;

means for receiving information about the payment request;

means for processing the payment request based on the information; and

means for notifying the user, wherein the payment button remains on the item screen during the processing.

23 . The on-line payment system of claim 22 , wherein the user enters only an identifier when paying for the item.

24 . The on-line payment system of claim 22 , wherein the payment button allows the user to enter information on the payment button.

25 . The on-line payment system of claim 22 , wherein the payment button notifies the user of a status of the processing.
