Abstract

A stator core for a stator of an electrical machine includes an elongate stator yoke having an interior surface that defines an axial central opening through the stator yoke. The interior surface further defines a plurality of axial channels about a perimeter of the central opening. A plurality of stator teeth are retained in the plurality of axial channels and spaced apart from one another to define to define axial channels to receive windings of the stator.

Claims (19)

1. A stator core for a stator of an electrical machine, comprising:

an elongate yoke stack comprising:

a plurality of yokes;

an axial central opening extending through the yoke stack; and

a plurality of axial channels formed in an interior surface of the central opening, at least one of the plurality of yokes formed at least partially from a material different from another of the plurality of yokes; and

a plurality of stator teeth retained in the plurality of axial channels, the plurality of stator teeth defining axial channels to receive windings of the stator.

2. The stator core of claim 1 , wherein a plurality of the stator teeth comprise a material different than at least one of the plurality of yokes.

3. The stator core of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the stator teeth comprise a plurality of tooth segments.

4. The stator core of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the yokes is segmented.

5. The stator core of claim 4 , wherein at least one of the yoke segments comprises a plurality of yoke segment laminations.

6. The stator core of claim 5 , wherein one or more of the yoke segment laminations comprises a material different from one or more other yoke segment laminations.

7. The stator core of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of tooth segments comprise a protrusion that mates to a receptacle in an adjacent tooth lamination.

8. The stator core of claim 3 , wherein one or more of the tooth segments of one of the stator teeth at least partially comprises a material different from a material of one or more other tooth segments of the same stator tooth.

9. The stator core of claim 3 , wherein at least one of the tooth segments comprises a plurality of tooth laminations.

10. The stator core of claim 9 , wherein at least one of the plurality of tooth laminations of one of the tooth segments comprises a material different from one or more other tooth laminations of the same tooth segment or different tooth segments of the same stator tooth.

11. The stator core of claim 9 , wherein for one or more of the stator teeth, the tooth laminations of the tooth segments alternate between one or more first tooth laminations comprising a first saturation flux density and one or more second tooth laminations comprising a second, higher saturation flux density.

12. The stator core of claim 9 , wherein one or more of the stator teeth comprises a pattern of first saturation flux density tooth laminations and second, higher flux density tooth laminations along an axial length of the stator tooth, the pattern comprising a highest saturation flux about an axial end of the stator tooth.

13. The stator core of claim 9 , wherein one or more of the stator teeth comprises a pattern of first saturation flux density tooth laminations and second, higher flux density tooth laminations along an axial length of the stator tooth, the pattern comprising a highest saturation flux density intermediate the axial length of the stator tooth.

14. The stator core of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of stator teeth are interlocked with the elongate yoke stack.
