Abstract

An improved tubing device, preferably for use in the medical industry is provided. The tubing device provides a seamless transport path by using the tubing itself as the transport means without any other internally wetted parts, or connections, to provide a substantial reduction in the number of fluid contact components, and eliminate the need for cutting tubes into segments to be later bonded via tubing connectors. This can reduce the risk of contamination of the transported materials and can also reduce the use of chemicals such as adhesives and bonding agents.

Claims (29)

1. A tubing device for use in the medical industry, said tubing device comprising:

a tube support made of a single piece of material comprising a curvilinear channel having a first wall opposing a second wall disposed therein for receiving a piece of tubing, said curvilinear channel having at least one portion having the first and the second wall, which portion curves concavely outwardly and at least one portion having the first and the second wall, which portion curves concavely inwardly to prevent slippage of a tube held in the channel;

means for holding a piece of tubing in said channel;

wherein said tube support further comprises:

a first portion and a second portion; and

said first and second portions being connected by a hinge.

2. The tubing device according to claim 1 , wherein each of said first portion and said second portion of said tube support comprises a channel.

3. The tubing device according to claim 2 , wherein said channel in said first portion and said channel in said second portion are configured to align with each other to form a passageway to hold a piece of tubing between them.

4. The tubing device according to claim 3 , wherein said channel in said first portion and said channel in said second portion are both substantially U-shaped and are configured to form a cylindrical channel when aligned.

5. The tubing device according to claim 4 , wherein said U-shaped channel in said first portion and said U-shaped channel in said second portion each has a semi-circular cross section.

6. The tubing device according to claim 5 , wherein said U-shaped channel in said first portion has a greater than semi-circular cross section, and said U-shaped channel in said second section has a less than semi-circular cross-section.

7. A tubing device for use in the medical industry, said tubing device comprising a one-piece tube support comprising a curvilinear channel disposed therein for receiving a piece of tubing;

means for holding a piece of tubing in said channel; wherein said curvilinear channel is a first stage curvilinear channel, and said tube support comprises a second stage curvilinear channel, said second stage curvilinear channel being disposed adjacent to, and at least partially below said first stage curvilinear channel and within said support member.

8. A tubing device for use in the medical industry, said tubing device comprising a one-piece tube support comprising a curvilinear channel disposed therein for receiving a piece of tubing;

means for holding a piece of tubing in said channel; wherein said curvilinear channel is a first stage curvilinear channel, and said tube support comprises a second stage curvilinear channel, wherein said first stage curvilinear channel is a top channel, and said second stage curvilinear channel is a bottom channel, said bottom channel being disposed on an opposing face of said support member from said top channel.

9. The tubing device according to claim 1 , wherein said support member comprises an aperture for hanging said tubing device.

10. The tubing device according to claim 1 , wherein said support device comprises opposing faces and a circumferential edge, and said curvilinear channel comprises a trough disposed along at least a portion of said circumferential edge.

11. The tubing device according to claim 1 , wherein said support device comprises apertures to reduce the weight of said support device.

12. A tubing device for transporting a biological fluid, said tubing device comprising:

a tube support made of a single piece of material comprising a curvilinear channel having a first wall opposing a second wall disposed therein for receiving a piece of tubing, said curvilinear channel having at least one portion having the first and the second wall, which portion curves concavely outwardly and at least one portion having the first and the second wall, which portion curves concavely inwardly to prevent slippage of the tube held in the passageway; and

a substantially non-flexible structure to hold a piece of flexible tubing in said channel.

13. The tubing device according to claim 12 , further comprising a piece of flexible tubing disposed in said channel.

14. The tubing device according to claim 1 , wherein said curvilinear channel is substantially U-shaped and has an open end and a closed end, wherein the distance between the sides of said U-shaped channel at its open end is less than at its closed end, thereby preventing movement of the tubing in the channel when weight is applied to the tubing.

15. A tubing device for use in the medical industry, said tubing device comprising:

a one-piece tube support comprising a curvilinear channel disposed therein for receiving a piece of tubing;

means for holding a piece of tubing in said channel;

wherein said tube support further comprises:

a first portion and a second portion with said first portion and said second portion being connected by a hinge:

wherein said channel in said first portion and said channel in said second portion are configured to align with each other to form a passageway with a first wall opposing a second wall to hold a piece of tubing between them, and wherein said passageway has at least one portion with the first wall and the second wall, which portion curves concavely outwardly and at least one portion with the first wall and the second wall, which portion curves concavely inwardly to prevent slippage of the tube held in the passageway.
