Abstract

A carton having a dispenser with a removable dispenser panel. The dispenser panel is configured to be easily removed and to allow access to containers in the carton.

Claims (56)

1. A carton for containing a plurality of articles, the carton comprising:

a plurality of panels that extend at least partially around an interior of the carton, the plurality of panels including a top panel, a first side panel, a second side panel, and a bottom panel; the top panel connected to the first side panel along a first fold line; the top panel connected to the second side panel along a second fold line;

a top end flap connected to the top panel along a third fold line and a first side end flap connected to the first side panel; and

a dispenser panel that is at least partially defined in the top panel by a tear line, the tear line comprising at least a first oblique portion in the top panel extending from the first fold line to a first corner, a second oblique portion in the top panel extending from the first corner to the second fold line, and a third oblique portion in the top panel extending from the second fold line to the third fold line;

wherein the tear line extends across the third fold line, and into the top end flap;

wherein the tear line includes a fourth tear line portion that is generally coextensive with the second fold line.

2. The carton of claim 1 wherein the first oblique portion intersects the first fold line at a first angle and the second oblique portion intersects the second fold line at a second angle.

3. The carton of claim 2 wherein the first angle is greater than the second angle.

4. The carton of claim 1 wherein a portion of the dispenser panel is in the first side panel.

5. The carton of claim 1 wherein the tear line extends to an end of the top end flap.

6. The carton of claim 1 wherein the tear line extends across the first fold line into the first side panel.

7. The carton of claim 6 wherein the tear line extends into the first side end flap.

8. The carton of claim 1 in combination with a plurality of articles, the plurality of articles comprising containers that are arranged in at least two rows in the carton.

9. The carton of claim 1 wherein an access flap is provided in the top panel for initiating removal of the dispenser panel.

10. A carton for containing a plurality of articles, the carton comprising:

a plurality of panels that extend at least partially around an interior of the carton, the plurality of panels including a top panel, a first side panel, a second side panel, and a bottom panel; the top panel connected to the first side panel along a first fold line; the top panel connected to the second side panel along a second fold line;

a top end flap connected to the top panel along a third fold line and a first side end flap connected to the first side panel; and

a dispenser panel that is at least partially defined in the top panel by a tear line, the tear line comprising at least a first oblique portion extending from the first fold line to a first corner, a second oblique portion extending from the first corner to the second fold line, and a third oblique portion extending from the second fold line to the third fold line;

wherein the tear line extends across the third fold line into the top end flap and wherein the dispenser panel comprises at least a portion of the first side panel, the second side panel, the top end flap, and the first side end flap.

11. The carton of claim 10 wherein the tear line forms a generally L-shaped retaining portion at a first end of the carton.

12. The carton of claim 11 wherein the L-shaped retaining portion is in the top end flap.

13. The carton of claim 7 wherein the tear line extends to an end of the first side end flap.

14. A blank for forming a carton comprising:

a plurality of panels, the plurality of panels comprises a first panel connected to a second panel along a first fold line, the second panel connected to a third panel along a second fold line, the third panel connected to a fourth panel along a third fold line, and an adhesive panel connected to either the first panel or the fourth panel;

at least a first end flap connected to the first panel and a second end flap connected to the second panel along a fourth fold line;

a removable portion at least partially defined in the second panel by a tear line;

the tear line comprising at least a first oblique tear line segment in the second panel extending from the first fold line to a first turn, a second oblique tear line segment in the second panel extending from the first turn to the second fold line, and a third oblique tear line segment in the second panel extending from the second fold line to the fourth fold line;

wherein the tear line extends across the fourth fold line and into the second end flap;

wherein the tear line includes a fourth tear line segment that is generally coextensive with the second fold line.

15. The blank of claim 14 wherein the first oblique tear line segment intersects the first fold line at a first angle and the second oblique tear line segment intersects the second fold line at a second angle.

16. The blank of claim 15 wherein the first angle is greater than the second angle.

17. The blank of claim 14 wherein the removable portion panel comprises at least a portion of the second panel.

18. The blank of claim 14 wherein the tear line extends to an end of the second end flap.

19. The blank of claim 14 wherein the tear line extends across the first fold line into the first panel.

20. The blank of claim 19 wherein the tear line extends into the first end flap.

21. The blank of claim 20 wherein the tear line extends to an end of the second end flap.

22. The blank of claim 14 wherein an access flap is provided in the second panel for initiating removal of the removable portion.

23. A blank for forming a carton comprising:

a plurality of panels, the plurality of panels comprises a first panel connected to a second panel along a first fold line, the second panel connected to a third panel along a second fold line, the third panel connected to a fourth panel along a third fold line, and an adhesive panel connected to either the first panel or the fourth panel;

at least a first end flap connected to the first panel and a second end flap connected to the second panel along a fourth fold line;

a removable portion at least partially defined in the second panel by a tear line;

the tear line comprising at least a first oblique tear line segment in the second panel extending from the first fold line to a first turn, a second oblique tear line segment in the second panel extending from the first turn to the second fold line, and a third oblique tear line segment in the second panel extending from the second fold line to the fourth fold line;

wherein the tear line extends across the third fold line into the first end flap and wherein the removable portion comprises at least a portion of the first panel, the second panel, the first end flap, and the second end flap.

24. The blank of claim 23 wherein the tear line forms a generally L-shaped retaining portion in a first end of the carton.

25. The blank of claim 24 wherein the L-shaped retaining portion is in the second end flap.

26. A method of opening a carton comprising:

providing a carton having a plurality of panels that extend at least partially around an interior of the carton, the plurality of panels including a top panel, a first side panel, a second side panel, and a bottom panel; the top panel connected to the first side panel along a first fold line; the top panel connected to the second side panel along a second fold line; a top end flap connected to the top panel along a third fold line and a first side end flap connected to the first side panel; and a dispenser panel that is at least partially defined in the top panel by a tear line, the tear line comprising at least a first oblique portion in the top panel extending from the first fold line to a first corner, a second oblique portion in the top panel extending from the first corner to the second fold line, and a third oblique portion in the top panel extending from the second fold line to the third fold line; wherein the tear line extends from the top panel, across the third fold line, and into the top end flap;

at least partially separating the dispenser panel from the carton along the first oblique portion, the second oblique portion, and the third oblique portion to create an opening in the carton;

wherein the tear line includes a fourth tear line segment that is generally coextensive with the second fold line.

27. The method of claim 26 further comprising removing a container from the carton through the opening.

28. The method of claim 26 wherein at least partially separating the dispenser panel from the carton comprises at least partially separating the dispenser panel along the fourth tear line segment to create the opening in the carton.

29. The method of claim 26 wherein the tear line extends across the first fold line into the first side panel, and wherein at least partially separating the dispenser panel from the carton comprises at least partially separating a portion of the first side panel.

30. The method of claim 26 wherein at least partially separating the dispenser panel from the carton comprises at least partially separating a portion of the top end flap.

31. The method of claim 26 wherein the at least partially separating the dispenser panel comprises pulling the dispenser panel in a first direction and then pulling the dispenser panel in a second direction.

32. The method of claim 31 wherein the first direction is generally parallel to a longitudinal axis of the carton.

33. The method of claim 32 wherein the second direction is generally oblique relative to the first direction.
