Abstract

A phosphite composition comprising at least two of a tris(diamylaryl) phosphite, a tris(monoamylaryl) phosphite, a bis(diamylaryl)monoamylaryl phosphite, and a bis(monoamylaryl)diamylaryl phosphite. The inventive phosphite composition is a liquid at ambient conditions.

Claims (33)

1. A phosphite composition consisting essentially of:

from 0 to 20 weight percent based on the total weight of the composition of a tris(diamylaryl) phosphite;

from 20 to 70 weight percent based on the total weight of the composition of a tris(monoamylaryl) phosphite;

from 2 to 20 weight percent based on the total weight of the composition of a bis(diamylaryl)monoamylaryl phosphite; and

from 15 to 60 weight percent based on the total weight of the composition of a bis(monoamylaryl)diamylaryl phosphite,

wherein the composition is a liquid at room temperature and atmospheric pressure.

2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein at least 90% of the amyl substituents are tert-amyl.

3. An additive composition consisting essentially of:

from 1 to 4 weight percent based on the total weight of the additive composition of a phenol;

from 0 to 20 weight percent based on the total weight of the additive composition of a tris(diamylaryl) phosphite;

from 20 to 70 weight percent based on the total weight of the additive composition of a tris(monoamylaryl) phosphite;

from 2 to 20 weight percent based on the total weight of the additive composition of a bis(diamylaryl)monoamylaryl phosphite; and

from 15 to 60 weight percent based on the total weight of the additive composition of a bis(monoamylaryl)diamylaryl phosphite,

wherein the composition is a liquid at room temperature and atmospheric pressure.

4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the ratio of monoamylaryl groups to diamylaryl groups ranges from 5:1 to 1:1.

5. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises greater than 50 weight percent monoamylaryl moieties and greater than 10 weight percent diamylaryl moieties.

6. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition has a viscosity ranging from 1,500 cSt to 7,000 cSt at 30° C.

7. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition has phosphorus content of at least 4.5 mole percent.

8. An additive composition comprising the phosphite composition of claim 1 and at least one additional component selected from the group consisting of phenolic antioxidants, amine stabilizers, hindered amine light stabilizers, ultraviolet light absorbers, phosphonites, alkaline metal salts of fatty acids, hydrotalcites, metal oxides, epoxidized oils, epoxidized soybean oils, hydroxylamines, lactones, thermal reaction products of tertiary amine oxides, thiosynergists, and additional phosphites.

9. An additive composition comprising the phosphite composition of claim 1 an amine selected from the group consisting of triethanolamine, triisopropanolamine, diethanolamine, diisopropanolamine, tetraisopropanolethylenediamine, alkyl alkanolamines, and dialkyl dialkanolamines.

10. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is substantially free of phenols.

11. A stabilized polymeric composition comprising:

A) a polymeric resin; and

B) the composition according to claim 1 .

12. The additive composition of claim 3 , wherein the ratio of monoamylaryl groups to diamylaryl groups ranges from 5:1 to 1:1.

13. The additive composition of claim 3 , wherein the composition comprises greater than 50 weight percent monoamylaryl moieties and greater than 10 weight percent diamylaryl moieties.

14. The additive composition of claim 3 , wherein the composition has a viscosity ranging from 1,500 cSt to 7,000 cSt at 30° C.

15. The additive composition of claim 3 , wherein the composition has phosphorus content of at least 4.5 mole percent.

16. A composition comprising the additive composition of claim 3 and at least one additional component selected from the group consisting of phenolic antioxidants, amine stabilizers, hindered amine light stabilizers, ultraviolet light absorbers, phosphonites, alkaline metal salts of fatty acids, hydrotalcites, metal oxides, epoxidized oils, epoxidized soybean oils, hydroxylamines, lactones, thermal reaction products of tertiary amine oxides, thiosynergists, and additional phosphites.

17. A composition comprising the additive composition of claim 3 and at least one amine selected from the group consisting of triethanolamine, triisopropanolamine, diethanolamine, diisopropanolamine, tetraisopropanolethylenediamine, alkyl alkanolamines, and dialkyl dialkanolamines.

18. A stabilized polymeric composition comprising:

A) a polymeric resin; and

B) the composition according to claim 3 .
