Abstract

An organic EL display device includes a pixel electrode which is disposed in each of first to third organic EL elements, a first light emission layer which includes a first dopant material having a first absorbance peak, the first light emission layer extending over the first to third organic EL elements and being disposed above the pixel electrode, a second light emission layer which includes a second dopant material having a second absorbance peak and is disposed above the first light emission layer, a third light emission layer which is disposed above the second light emission layer, a counter-electrode which is disposed above the third light emission layer, and a hole transport layer which is formed of a material having an absorbance bottom on a shorter wavelength side than the first absorbance peak and the second absorbance peak in absorbance spectrum characteristics of the hole transport layer.

Claims (36)

1. An organic EL display device comprising:

an insulative substrate;

a pixel electrode which is disposed above the substrate and is disposed in each of first to third organic EL elements having different emission light colors;

a first light emission layer which includes a first dopant material having a first absorbance peak in absorbance spectrum characteristics of the first dopant material, the first light emission layer extending over the first to third organic EL elements and being disposed above the pixel electrode;

a second light emission layer which includes a second dopant material having a second absorbance peak in absorbance spectrum characteristics of the second dopant material, the second light emission layer extending over the first to third organic EL elements and being disposed above the first light emission layer;

a third light emission layer which includes a third dopant material, the third light emission layer extending over the first to third organic EL elements and being disposed above the second light emission layer;

a counter-electrode which extends over the first to third organic EL elements and is disposed above the third light emission layer; and

a hole transport layer which is formed of a material having an absorbance bottom on a shorter wavelength side than the first absorbance peak of the first dopant material and the second absorbance peak of the second dopant material in absorbance spectrum characteristics of the hole transport layer, the hole transport layer extending over the first to third organic EL elements and being disposed between the pixel electrode and the first light emission layer,

wherein the first dopant material in the first light emission layer of the second organic EL element is irradiated with light and is in an optical quenching state, and

the first dopant material and the second dopant material in the first light emission layer and second light emission layer of the third organic EL element are irradiated with light and are in an optical quenching state.

2. The organic EL display device according to claim 1 , wherein the hole transport layer has a normalized absorbance of 10% or less at wavelengths of 350 nm or more in normalized absorbance spectrum characteristics thereof.

3. The organic EL display device according to claim 1 , wherein each of the first absorbance peak and the second absorbance peak is a point with a maximum absorbance value at wavelengths of 300 nm or more.

4. The organic EL display device according to claim 1 , wherein the absorbance bottom is a point at which a normalized absorbance is 10% or less on a longest wavelength side in the normalized absorbance spectrum characteristics.

5. The organic EL display device according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first dopant material, the second dopant material and the third dopant material is a phosphorescent material.

The organic EL display device according to claim 1 , wherein the first dopant material has a central light emission wavelength in a first wavelength range, the second dopant material has a central light emission wavelength in a second wavelength range including shorter wavelengths than the first wavelength range, and the third dopant material has a central light emission wavelength in a third wavelength range including shorter wavelengths than the second wavelength range.

7. The organic EL display device according to claim 1 , wherein the pixel electrode includes a reflective layer and a transmissive layer which is disposed between the reflective layer and the hole transport layer.

8. The organic EL display device according to claim 1 , wherein the counter-electrode includes a semi-transmissive layer.

9. The organic EL display device according to claim 1 , further comprising a sealing substrate which seals the first to third organic EL elements.

10. The organic EL display device according to claim 1 , further comprising a driver for driving the first to third organic EL elements, the driver being disposed above the substrate.

11. An organic EL display device comprising:

an insulative substrate;

a pixel electrode which is disposed above the substrate and is disposed in each of first to third organic EL elements having different emission light colors;

a first light emission layer which includes a first dopant material having a first absorbance peak in absorbance spectrum characteristics of the first dopant material, the first light emission layer extending over the first to third organic EL elements and being disposed above the pixel electrode;

a second light emission layer which includes a second dopant material having a second absorbance peak in absorbance spectrum characteristics of the second dopant material, the second light emission layer extending over the first to third organic EL elements and being disposed above the first light emission layer;

a third light emission layer which includes a third dopant material, the third light emission layer extending over the first to third organic EL elements and being disposed above the second light emission layer;

a counter-electrode which extends over the first to third organic EL elements and is disposed above the third light emission layer; and

a hole transport layer which has an absorbance bottom, at which a normalized absorbance is 10% or less, on a shorter wavelength side than the first absorbance peak of the first dopant material and the second absorbance peak of the second dopant material in normalized absorbance spectrum characteristics of the hole transport layer, the hole transport layer extending over the first to third organic EL elements and being disposed between the pixel electrode and the first light emission layer,

wherein the first dopant material in the first light emission layer of the second organic EL element is irradiated with light and is in an optical quenching state, and

the first dopant material and the second dopant material in the first light emission layer and second light emission layer of the third organic EL element are irradiated with light and are in an optical quenching state.

12. The organic EL display device according to claim 11 , wherein each of the first absorbance peak and the second absorbance peak is a point with a maximum absorbance value at wavelengths of 300 nm or more.

13. The organic EL display device according to claim 11 , wherein the absorbance bottom is a point at which the normalized absorbance is 10% or less on a longest wavelength side in the normalized absorbance spectrum characteristics.

14. The organic EL display device according to claim 11 , wherein at least one of the first dopant material, the second dopant material and the third dopant material is a phosphorescent material.

The organic EL display device according to claim 11 , wherein the first dopant material has a central light emission wavelength in a first wavelength range, the second dopant material has a central light emission wavelength in a second wavelength range including shorter wavelengths than the first wavelength range, and the third dopant material has a central light emission wavelength in a third wavelength range including shorter wavelengths than the second wavelength range.

16. The organic EL display device according to claim 11 , wherein the pixel electrode includes a reflective layer and a transmissive layer which is disposed between the reflective layer and the hole transport layer.

17. The organic EL display device according to claim 11 , wherein the counter-electrode includes a semi-transmissive layer.

18. The organic EL display device according to claim 11 , further comprising a sealing substrate which seals the first to third organic EL elements.
