Abstract

A stock supply station for use in a insulated glass unit component production line includes a plurality of rotatable sheet stock coils, an indexing mechanism, and an uncoiling mechanism. The indexing mechanism is coupled to the sheet stock coils for indexing a selected one of the sheet stock coils to an uncoiling position. The uncoiling mechanism selectively uncoils sheet stock from a sheet stock coil indexed to the uncoiling position to thereby provide sheet stock to a downstream processing station.

Claims (34)

1. A stock supply station for use in an insulated glass unit component production line, comprising:

a) a plurality of rotatable sheet stock coils;

b) an indexing mechanism coupled to the sheet stock coils for indexing a selected one of the sheet stock coils to an uncoiling position;

c) an uncoiling mechanism for selectively uncoiling sheet stock from a sheet stock coil indexed to the uncoiling position to thereby provide sheet stock to a downstream processing station; and

d) a controller in communication with said stock supply station for moving said index mechanism along a track to position the selected one of the sheet stock coils to an uncoiling position.

2. The stock supply station of claim 1 wherein the sheet stock coils are individually rotatable about a common axis.

3. The stock supply station of claim 1 wherein the indexing mechanism comprises a carriage that supports the sheet stock coils and a drive mechanism coupled to the carriage that moves the carriage to selectively position the coils at the uncoiling position.

4. The stock supply station of claim 1 wherein the uncoiling mechanism is positioned to individually drive each of the rotatable sheet stock coils when positioned at the uncoiling position to individually uncoil the sheet stock from each of the coils.

5. The stock supply station of claim 1 wherein each sheet stock coils is mounted to a rotatable disk and the uncoiling mechanism selectively engages a radially outer surface of the rotatable disk indexed to the uncoiling position to provide sheet stock to the processing station.

6. The stock supply station of claim 1 further comprising a plurality of clamping mechanisms that position an end portion of each of the sheet stock coils such that the end portion of a coil indexed to the uncoiling station is positioned at an entrance of the processing station.

7. The stock supply station of claim 1 further comprising a pair of drive rollers positioned at the processing station entrance, the pair of drive rollers being selectively moveable between a first position where the drive rollers are spaced apart and a second position where the drive rollers engage the coil end portion positioned at the entrance of the processing station.

8. The stock supply station of claim 7 wherein the drive rollers selectively feed the sheet stock positioned at the entrance of the processing station into the processing station.

9. The stock supply station of claim 1 wherein the plurality of rotatable sheet stock coils have different sheet stock widths.

10. The stock supply station of claim 1 wherein the plurality of rotatable sheet stock coils have the same width.

11. the stock supply station of claim 1 wherein the index mechanism rotates a support turntable for the sheet stock coils about a center axis to position a selected sheet stock coil at the uncoiling position.

12. A stock supply station for use in a window component production line, comprising:

a) a plurality of rotatable sheet stock coils;

b) a plurality of clamping mechanisms that hold an end portion of each of the sheet stock coils;

c) an indexing mechanism coupled to the sheet stock coils for indexing a selected sheet stock coil and a corresponding clamping mechanism to an uncoiling position;

d) a pair of drive rollers being selectively relatively moveable between a spaced apart position and an engagement position;

e) a controller in communication with the indexing mechanism and the pair of drive rollers that moves the pair of drive rollers to the spaced apart position, indexes the selected sheet stock coil to the uncoiling position where the corresponding clamping mechanism positions the sheet stock end portion between the pair of drive rollers, moves the pair of drive rollers to the engagement position to engage the coil end portion, and rotates the drive rollers to feed the sheet stock into the processing station.

13. The stock supply station of claim 12 wherein the indexing mechanism comprises a carriage that supports the sheet stock coils and a drive mechanism coupled to the carriage that moves the carriage to selectively position the coils at the uncoiling position.

14. The stock supply station of claim 12 further comprising an uncoiling mechanism that is positioned to selectively drive each of the rotatable sheet stock coils when positioned at the uncoiling position to selectively uncoil the sheet stock from each of the coils.

15. The stock supply station of claim 12 wherein each sheet stock coil is mounted to a rotatable disk and an uncoiling mechanism selectively engages a radially outer surface of the sheet stock coil indexed to the uncoiling position to provide sheet stock to the corresponding clamping mechanism.

16. A stock supply station for use in a window component production line, comprising:

a plurality of rotatable sheet stock coils;

a plurality of clamping mechanisms that hold an end portion of each of the sheet stock coils;

an indexing mechanism coupled to the sheet stock coils for indexing a selected sheet stock coil and a corresponding clamping mechanism to an uncoiling position;

a pair of drive rollers being selectively relatively moveable between a spaced apart position and an engagement position;

the clamping mechanisms having a fixed guide and an adjustable guide such that movement of the adjustable guide sets a space for the corresponding width of the sheet stock from the selected sheet stock coil;

a controller in communication with said stock supply station for moving said index mechanism along a track supported by the stock supply station to position the selected one of the sheet stock coils and corresponding clamping mechanisms to an uncoiling position.

17. The stock supply station of claim 16 wherein the indexing mechanism comprises a carriage that supports the sheet stock coils and a drive mechanism coupled to the carriage that moves the carriage to selectively position the coils at the uncoiling position.

18. The stock supply station of claim 16 further comprising an uncoiling mechanism that is positioned to selectively drive each of the rotatable sheet stock coils when positioned at the uncoiling position to selectively uncoil the sheet stock from each of the coils.

19. The stock supply station of claim 16 wherein each sheet stock coil is mounted to a rotatable disk and an uncoiling mechanism selectively engages a radially outer surface of the sheet stock coil indexed to the uncoiling position to provide sheet stock to the corresponding clamping mechanism.
