Abstract

State-of-the-art electronic structure calculations provide the likelihood of the availability of AlLi 2 MgH n , ScLi 2 MgH n , TiLi 2 MgH n , VLi 2 MgH n , CrLi 2 MgH n , MnLi 2 MgH n , FeLi 2 MgH n , CoLi 2 MgH n , NiLi 2 MgH n , CuLi 2 MgH n , ZnLi 2 MgH n , GaLi 2 MgH n , GeLi 2 MgH n , PdLi 2 MgH n , AgLi 2 MgH n , CdLi 2 MgH n , InLi 2 MgH n , SnLi 2 MgH n , SbLi 2 MgH n , PtLi 2 MgH n , AuLi 2 MgH n , HgLi 2 MgH n , TlLi 2 MgH n , PbLi 2 MgH n , and BiLi 2 MgH n (here n is an integer having a value in a particular compound of 4-7) as solid hydrides for the storage and release of hydrogen. Different hydrogen contents may be obtained in compounds having the same XLi 2 Mg crystal structures. These materials offer utility for hydrogen storage systems.
