Abstract

A plug for a tubular service entrance of a conduit, wherein the plug includes a core body having a central hollow channel extending from a first end to second end of the core body; at least one flexible fin extending radially outwardly from the core body and having an outer diameter greater than the inner diameter of the tubular service entrance so that the plug is adapted to fit tightly into the tubular service entrance, and wherein the at least one flexible fin is deformable to adapt to the shape of the service entrance and apply a lateral force against the inner diameter of the service entrance. A plug dispensing magazine for storing and dispensing service entrance plugs to be service entrances of a conduit prior to installation of a liner in the conduit and a method of sealing the service entrances.

Claims (13)

1. A method of sealing a service entrance in a conduit prior to installation of a rehabilitative liner in the conduit comprising:

maneuvering a remote controlled robot to a service entrance in the conduit, wherein the robot includes a plug dispensing magazine for storing and dispensing service entrance plugs installed thereon, a plug insertion tool and an injection device combined with the plug insertion tool, wherein the plugs include a core body having a central hollow channel, at least two longitudinally spaced apart flexible fins extending radially outwardly from the core body and, vent holes disposed on the core body in between the flexible fins;

with the plug insertion tool, releasing a plug from the magazine and inserting the plug into the service entrance;

with the injection device, injecting sealing material into the plug in order to seal the service entrance without having to change a position of the plug insertion tool; and curing the sealing material.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of inserting includes inserting the plug so that the plug lies totally within the service entrance.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plug includes vent holes disposed on one of the at least two flexible fins on the body, and wherein step of injecting sealing material includes filling the central channel of the core body and a space in between the flexible fins until the sealing material escapes out of the vent holes disposed on one of the fins.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of injecting includes injecting the material using a remotely operated injection device including a remotely operated dispensing valve.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of injecting includes pre-mixing multi-component sealing material with a static mixer.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the material is of a single component.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the material is of two or more components.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the material is fluid enough to flow into various shaped voids.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the material is approved for contact with potable water.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of curing includes curing the material to a hardness which can be drilled out after installation of a rehabilitative liner.
