Abstract

A device, method and computer program product for effecting vibrations in a device. In accordance with one example embodiment of the present disclosure, there is provided a method for effecting vibrations in a mobile electronic device having a first body and a second body movably mounted together, a drive motor for moving one body relative to the other body between a closed position and an open position in a first mode of operation, a controller for controlling the drive motor, and a biasing mechanism for applying a biasing force biasing the first and second bodies in the closed position when the first and second bodies are in the closed position and for applying a biasing force biasing the first and second bodies in the open position when the first and second bodies are in the open position, the method including: in a second mode of operation, driving the motor to repeatedly move one of the first body and the second body relative to the other of first body and the second body and against the biasing mechanism to cause the mobile electronic device to vibrate.

Claims (17)

1. A method for effecting vibrations in a mobile electronic device having a first body and a second body movably mounted together, a drive motor for moving one body relative to the other body between a closed position and an open position, and a biasing mechanism for applying a biasing force biasing the first body and second body in the closed position when the first body and second body are in the closed position and for applying a biasing force biasing the first body and second body in the open position when the first body and second body are in the open position, the method including:

driving the motor to repeatedly move one of the first body and the second body relative to the other of first body and the second body towards the closed position or open position and against the biasing mechanism to cause the mobile electronic device to vibrate.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein driving the motor comprises:

when the first body and second body are in the closed position, pulsing the drive motor to repeatedly: (i) act against the biasing force to slightly move the bodies away from the closed position and then (ii) permit the biasing force to move the first body and second body back to the closed position.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein driving the motor comprises:

when the first body and second body are in the open position, pulsing the drive motor to repeatedly: (i) act against the biasing force to slightly move the bodies away from the open position and then (ii) permit the biasing force to move the first body and second body back to the open position.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the drive motor is repeatedly driven in opposite directions in minute amounts thereby to cause the mobile electronic device to vibrate.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first body and the second body are connected to each other in a manner permitting rotational movement of the first body and second body relative to each other.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first body and the second body are connected to each other in a manner permitting sliding movement of the first body and second body relative to each other.

7. A method for effecting vibrations in a mobile electronic device having a first body and a second body movably mounted together, a drive motor for moving one body relative to the other body between a closed position and an open position, the method including:

repeatedly driving the drive motor in opposite directions in minute amounts thereby to cause the mobile electronic device to vibrate to generate a vibration alert, wherein the first body and the second body are connected to each other in a manner permitting rotational movement of the first body and second body relative to each other.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the mobile electronic device further comprises a biasing mechanism for applying a biasing force biasing the first body and second body in the closed position when the first body and second body are in the closed position and for applying a biasing force biasing the first body and second body in the open position when the first body and second body are in the open position;

wherein the drive motor is repeatedly driven in opposite directions against the biasing mechanism in minute amounts thereby to cause the mobile electronic device to vibrate to generate the vibration alert.

9. A method for effecting vibrations in a mobile electronic device having a first body and a second body movably mounted together, a drive motor for moving one body relative to the other body between a closed position and an open position, the method including:

repeatedly driving the drive motor in opposite directions in minute amounts thereby to cause the mobile electronic device to vibrate to generate a vibration alert, wherein the first body and the second body are connected to each other in a manner permitting sliding movement of the first body and second body relative to each other.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the mobile electronic device further comprises a biasing mechanism for applying a biasing force biasing the first body and second body in the closed position when the first body and second body are in the closed position and for applying a biasing force biasing the first body and second body in the open position when the first body and second body are in the open position;

wherein the drive motor is repeatedly driven in opposite directions against the biasing mechanism in minute amounts thereby to cause the mobile electronic device to vibrate to generate the vibration alert.
