Abstract

An aerosol assembly for dispensing texture material. When the actuator member is displaced to place the aerosol valve assembly into the open configuration, pressurized fluid forces texture material out of the main container.

Claims (54)

1 . A texturing system for forming a textured coating on a portion of a target surface such that the textured coating substantially matches a pre-existing texture pattern on the target surface:

a container assembly defining a container chamber for containing texture material in liquid form and propellant material, where the propellant material pressurizes the texture material within the container chamber;

a valve assembly mounted on the container assembly, where the valve assembly operates in

a closed configuration in which the valve assembly prevents pressurized texture material from flowing out of the container assembly, and

an open configuration in which the valve assembly allows the flow of pressurized texture material out of the container assembly along a dispensing path;

a outlet member defining an outlet opening, where the outlet member is deformable such that a cross-sectional area of the outlet opening may be altered; and

an engaging structure for engaging the outlet member; wherein

the outlet member is supported to define a portion of the dispensing path such that pressurized texture material flows out of the outlet opening when the valve assembly is in the open configuration;

the engaging structure engages the outlet member to alter the cross-sectional area of the outlet opening to an applied portion of pressurized texture material to be applied to the target surface in a spray pattern; and

the applied portion of the texture material dries to form the textured coating.

2 . A texturing system for forming a textured coating on a portion of a target surface such that the textured coating substantially matches a pre-existing texture pattern on the target surface:

a container assembly defining a container chamber for containing texture material in liquid form and propellant material, where the propellant material pressurizes the texture material within the container chamber;

a valve assembly mounted on the container assembly, where the valve assembly operates in

a closed configuration in which the valve assembly prevents pressurized texture material from flowing out of the container assembly, and

an open configuration in which the valve assembly allows the flow of pressurized texture material out of the container assembly along a dispensing path;

a first outlet member defining an outlet opening;

a second outlet member supported by the first outlet member adjacent to the outlet opening; wherein

the outlet member is supported to define a portion of the dispensing path such that pressurized texture material flows out of the outlet opening when the valve assembly is in the open configuration;

the second outlet member is moved relative to the first outlet opening to alter an effective cross-sectional area of the dispensing path adjacent to the outlet opening such that an applied portion of pressurized texture material that flows through the outlet opening is applied to the target surface in a spray pattern; and

the applied portion of the texture material dries to form the textured coating.

3 . A texturing system for forming a textured coating on a portion of a target surface such that the textured coating substantially matches a pre-existing texture pattern on the target surface:

a container assembly defining a container chamber for containing texture material in liquid form and propellant material, where the propellant material pressurizes the texture material within the container chamber;

a valve assembly mounted on the container assembly, where the valve assembly operates in

a closed configuration in which the valve assembly prevents pressurized texture material from flowing out of the container assembly, and

an open configuration in which the valve assembly allows the flow of pressurized texture material out of the container assembly along a dispensing path;

a first outlet member defining an outlet opening;

a second outlet member supported by the first outlet member adjacent to the outlet opening; wherein

the outlet member is supported to define a portion of the dispensing path such that pressurized texture material flows out of the outlet opening when the valve assembly is in the open configuration;

the second outlet member is moved relative to the first outlet opening to alter an effective cross-sectional area of the dispensing path adjacent to the outlet opening such that an applied portion of pressurized texture material that flows through the outlet opening is applied to the target surface in a spray pattern; and

the applied portion of the texture material dries to form the textured coating.

4 . A texturing system for forming a textured coating on a portion of a target surface such that the textured coating substantially matches a pre-existing texture pattern on the target surface:

a container assembly defining a container chamber for containing texture material in liquid form and propellant material, where the propellant material pressurizes the texture material within the container chamber;

a valve assembly mounted on the container assembly, where the valve assembly operates in

a closed configuration in which the valve assembly prevents pressurized texture material from flowing out of the container assembly, and

an open configuration in which the valve assembly allows the flow of pressurized texture material out of the container assembly along a dispensing path;

an outlet member defining an outlet opening, where the outlet member further defines an outlet cavity adjacent to the outlet opening; wherein

the outlet member is supported such that the outlet member defines a portion of the dispensing path, where the dispensing path defines

a first portion on a valve assembly side of the outlet cavity of the outlet member,

a second portion within the outlet cavity of the outlet member, and

a third portion on an outlet opening side of the outlet cavity of the outlet member, wherein

a cross-sectional area of the second portion of the dispensing path is greater than cross-sectional areas of the first and third portions of the dispensing path;

pressurized texture material flows out of the outlet opening of the selected outlet member when the valve assembly is in the open configuration;

the cross-sectional area of the outlet opening of the selected outlet member causes an applied portion of pressurized texture material to be applied to the target surface in a spray pattern; and

the applied portion of the texture material dries to form the textured coating.

5 . A texturing system for forming a textured coating on a portion of a target surface such that the textured coating substantially matches a pre-existing texture pattern on the target surface:

a container assembly defining a container chamber for containing texture material in liquid form and propellant material, where the propellant material pressurizes the texture material within the container chamber;

a valve assembly mounted on the container assembly, where the valve assembly operates in

a closed configuration in which the valve assembly prevents pressurized texture material from flowing out of the container assembly, and

an open configuration in which the valve assembly allows the flow of pressurized texture material out of the container assembly along a dispensing path; and

at least one outlet member defining an outlet opening having a predefined cross-sectional area, where the at least one outlet member is curved; wherein

the outlet member is supported to define a portion of the dispensing path such that pressurized texture material flows out of the outlet opening of the outlet member when the valve assembly is in the open configuration;

the cross-sectional area of the outlet opening of the selected outlet member causes an applied portion of pressurized texture material to be applied to the target surface in a spray pattern;

the curvature of the outlet member causes the spray pattern to be sprayed at an angle; and

the applied portion of the texture material dries to form the textured coating.
