Abstract

A method of making a coated article includes forming a layer including carbon on a glass substrate; and forming a layer (e.g., including tungsten disulfide) on the glass substrate over the carbon to prevent the layer comprising carbon from burning off upon exposure to air if taken to high temperatures. In certain embodiments, the amorphous carbon layer includes at least about 35% sp 3 carbon-carbon bonds, more preferably at least about 70%, and most preferably at least about 80% of the sp 3 carbon-carbon bonds.

Claims (8)

1. A method of making a coated article, the method comprising:

forming a layer comprising DLC on a glass substrate; and

forming a layer comprising tungsten disulfide on the glass substrate over the layer comprising DLC to prevent the layer comprising DLC from burning off upon exposure to air if taken to high temperatures.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein a low-E coating is provided between the glass substrate and the layer comprising DLC.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the layer comprising DLC has an average density of at least 2.4 gm/cm3.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the layer comprising DLC further includes hydrogen.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the DLC comprises to-C.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the DLC is amorphous.
