Abstract

An olefine polymer composition comprises a stabilizing amount of a metal deactivator comprising a polymeric hydrazine derivative. The deactivator is of formula (I), in which at least one of R 1 and R 2 comprise a polymeric radical that includes a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic radical, provided that R 1 and R 2 are not both of formula (II). The olefin polymers include polyethylene and polypropylene.

Claims (17)

1. An olefin polymer composition comprising a stabilizing amount of a metal deactivator of the formula I:

in which at least one of R 1 and R 2 , are of formula (II):

in which Ar is a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic group, and n is an integer of 1 to 10;

or

at least one of R 1 and R 2 are of formula (III):

in which Ar is a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic group, m is an integer of 1 to 1000, and R 3 is hydrogen or a C 1-12 alkyl group;

or

at least one of R 1 and R 2 are of formula (IV):

in which Ar is a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic group, and each of p and q is an integer of at least one,

in which R 1 and R 2 are not both of formula (II).

2. The composition of claim 1 in which both R 1 and R 2 are of formula (III) or (IV).

3. The composition of claim 1 in which R 1 and R 2 are of different formulas selected from formulas (II), (III) and (IV).

4. The composition of claim 1 in which the olefin polymer is polyethylene or polypropylene.

5. The composition of claim 1 in which the metal deactivator is present in an amount of at least 0.001 wt % based on the weight of the composition.

6. The composition of claim 1 in which R 1 is of formula (II) and R 2 is of formula (III).

7. The composition of claim 1 in which R 1 is of formula (II) and R 2 is of formula (IV).

8. The composition of claim 1 in which R 1 is of formula (III) and R 2 is of formula (IV).
