COPOLYMER MIXTURE
The invention provides a polymer composition comprising (a) a copolymer comprising in polymerized form at least one vinyl ester (i) of a monocarboxylic acid having 2 to 4 carbon atoms and at least one vinyl ester (ii) of a monocarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms and (b) a copolymer different from copolymer (a) and comprising in polymerized form vinyl acetate and ethylene. In addition the invention concerns compositions comprising an inorganic hydraulic binding agent and said polymer composition; and uses of said polymer composition, especially in tile adhesives.
1 . A redispersible polymer powder comprising a polymer composition comprising
(a) a copolymer comprising in polymerized form at least one vinyl ester (i) of a monocarboxylic acid having 2 to 4 carbon atoms and at least one vinyl ester (ii) of a monocarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms and
(b) a copolymer different from copolymer (a) and comprising in polymerized form vinyl acetate and ethylene.
2 . The redispersible polymer powder according to claim 1 wherein
copolymer (a) comprises in polymerized form 20 to 95% by weight of one or more vinyl esters (i) of a monocarboxylic acid having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, 5 to 80% by weight of one or more vinyl esters (ii) of a monocarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms, and (iii) 0 to 30% by weight of one or more optional comonomers and
copolymer (b) comprises in polymerized form 70 to 95% by weight of vinyl acetate, 5 to 30% by weight of ethylene, and 0 to 25% by weight of one or more optional comonomers.

5 . The redispersible polymer powder according to claim 1 wherein the weight ratio of copolymer (a) to copolymer (b) is within the range of from 40:60 to 60:40.

The redispersible polymer powder according to claim 1 wherein the vinyl ester (i) of a monocarboxylic acid having 2 to 4 carbon atoms is vinyl acetate and the vinyl ester (ii) of a monocarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms is a vinyl ester of a monocarboxylic acid having 5 to 15 carbon atoms.

8 . The redispersible polymer powder according to claim 1 wherein the vinyl ester (ii) of a monocarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms is a vinyl ester of a branched-chain monocarboxylic acid.

23 . An aqueous dispersion comprising a polymer composition comprising
(a) a copolymer comprising in polymerized form at least one vinyl ester (i) of a monocarboxylic acid having 2 to 4 carbon atoms and at least one vinyl ester (ii) of a monocarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms and
(b) a copolymer different from copolymer (a) and comprising in polymerized form vinyl acetate and ethylene.
24 . The aqueous dispersion of claim 23 wherein
copolymer (a) comprises in polymerized form 20 to 95% by weight of one or more vinyl esters (i) of a monocarboxylic acid having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, 5 to 80% by weight of one or more vinyl esters (ii) of a monocarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms, and (iii) 0 to 30% by weight of one or more optional comonomers and
copolymer (b) comprises in polymerized form 70 to 95% by weight of vinyl acetate, 5 to 30% by weight of ethylene, and 0 to 25% by weight of one or more optional comonomers.
25 . The aqueous dispersion of claim 23 wherein the weight ratio of copolymer (a) to copolymer (b) is within the range of from 40:60 to 60:40.
26 . The aqueous dispersion of claim 23 wherein the vinyl ester (i) of a monocarboxylic acid having 2 to 4 carbon atoms is vinyl acetate and the vinyl ester (ii) of a monocarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms is a vinyl ester of a monocarboxylic acid having 5 to 15 carbon atoms.
27 . The aqueous dispersion of claim 23 wherein the vinyl ester (ii) of a monocarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms is a vinyl ester of a branched-chain monocarboxylic acid.
28 . The aqueous dispersion of claim 23 wherein the vinyl ester (ii) of a monocarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms is a vinyl ester of a versatic acid.
29 . A composition comprising an inorganic hydraulic binding agent and a polymer composition comprising
(a) a copolymer comprising in polymerized form at least one vinyl ester (i) of a monocarboxylic acid having 2 to 4 carbon atoms and at least one vinyl ester (ii) of a monocarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms and
(b) a copolymer different from copolymer (a) and comprising in polymerized form vinyl acetate and ethylene.
30 . The composition of claim 29 which is a tile adhesive, construction adhesive, joint mortar, plaster, troweling composition, floor-filling composition, or paint.
31 . The composition of claim 29 wherein
copolymer (a) comprises in polymerized form 20 to 95% by weight of one or more vinyl esters (i) of a monocarboxylic acid having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, 5 to 80% by weight of one or more vinyl esters (ii) of a monocarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms, and (iii) 0 to 30% by weight of one or more optional comonomers and
copolymer (b) comprises in polymerized form 70 to 95% by weight of vinyl acetate, 5 to 30% by weight of ethylene, and 0 to 25% by weight of one or more optional comonomers.
32 . The composition of claim 29 wherein the weight ratio of copolymer (a) to copolymer (b) is within the range of from 40:60 to 60:40.
33 . The composition of claim 29 wherein the vinyl ester (i) of a monocarboxylic acid having 2 to 4 carbon atoms is vinyl acetate and the vinyl ester (ii) of a monocarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms is a vinyl ester of a monocarboxylic acid having 5 to 15 carbon atoms.
34 . A process for producing a coating composition or adhesive comprising the step of incorporating a polymer composition comprising
(a) a copolymer comprising in polymerized form at least one vinyl ester (i) of a monocarboxylic acid having 2 to 4 carbon atoms and at least one vinyl ester (ii) of a monocarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms and
(b) a copolymer different from copolymer (a) and comprising in polymerized form vinyl acetate and ethylene
into the coating composition or adhesive as a binder in the absence of any inorganic hydraulic binding agent.
35 . The process of claim 34 for producing a coating composition or an adhesive for wood, paper or textiles.
