Abstract

This disclosure provides compositions and method useful for treating cell proliferative disorders including cancer. The disclosure provides cannabidiol derivatives and compositions thereof either alone or in combination with THC or a derivative thereof.

Claims (14)

1. A method of treating glioblastoma multiforme in a subject by inhibiting the migration and/or invasiveness of glioma cells, comprising administering to the subject (i) a pharmaceutical composition consisting of cannabidiol or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and (ii) an anticancer drug selected from the group consisting of methotrexate, fluorouracil, hydroxyurea, mercaptopurine, cisplatin, daunorubicin, doxorubicin, vinblastine, vincristine and paclitaxel.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the glioblastoma multiforme is an Id-1-associated glioblastoma multiforme.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is a human.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising administering to the subject tetrahydrocannabinol (“THC”) or a derivative thereof selected from the group consisting of, Δ 9 -tetrahydrocannabinol-C 4 , Δ 9 -tetrahydrocannabivarin, tetrahydrocannabiorcol, Δ 9 -tetrahydro-cannabinolic acid A, Δ 9 -tetrahydro-cannabinolic acid B, Δ 9 -tetrahydro-cannabinolic acid A-C 4 , Δ 9 -tetrahydro-cannabinolic acid B-C 4 , Δ 9 -tetrahydro-cannabivarinic acid A-C 3 , Δ 9 -tetrahydro-cannabiorcolic acid A-C 1 , Δ 9 -tetrahydro-cannabiorcolic acid B-C 1 , (−)-Δ 8 -trans-(6aR,10aR)-Δ 8 -tetrahydrocannabinol, (−)-Δ 8 -trans-(6aR,10aR)-tetrahydrocannabinolic, and (−)-(6aS,10aR)-Δ 9 -tetrahydrocannabinol.

5. A method of treating a brain cancer in a subject by inhibiting the proliferation, migration, and/or invasiveness of brain cancer cells, comprising administering to the subject:

(A) a pharmaceutical composition consisting of a

(i) cannabidiol and

(ii) THC or a derivative thereof, and wherein the derivative of THC is selected from the group consisting of, Δ 9 -tetrahydrocannabinol-C 4 , Δ 9 -tetrahydrocannabivarin, tetrahydrocannabiorcol, Δ 9 -tetrahydro-cannabinolic acid A, Δ 9 -tetrahydro-cannabinolic acid B, Δ 9 -tetrahydro-cannabinolic acid A-C 4 , Δ 9 -tetrahydro-cannabinolic acid B-C 4 , Δ 9 -tetrahydro-cannabivarinic acid A-C 3 , Δ 9 -tetrahydro-cannabiorcolic acid A-C 1 , Δ 9 -tetrahydro-cannabiorcolic acid B-C 1 , (−)-Δ 8 -trans-(6aR,10aR)-Δ 8 -tetrahydrocannabinol, (−)-Δ 8 -trans-(6aR,10aR)-tetrahydrocannabinolic, and (−)-(6aS,10aR)-Δ 9 -tetrahydrocannabinol; and

(B) an anticancer drug selected from the group consisting of methotrexate, fluorouracil, hydroxyurea, mercaptopurine, cisplatin, daunorubicin, doxorubicin, etoposide, vinblastine, vincristine and paclitaxel.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the brain cancer is glioblastoma multiforme.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the subject is a human.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is formulated for either intravenous, intradermal, subcutaneous, transdermal, or rectal administration.

9. The method of claim 5 , wherein the composition comprises an excess of THC to cannabidiol.

10. The method of claim 5 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition consists of cannabidiol and THC and that the composition is formulated for either intravenous, intradermal, subcutaneous, transdermal or rectal administration.
